My grandmother was just diagnosed with multiple meyloma this month. It came as a big surprise.

In December she had a problem with a fractured vertabre and went to the orthopedist. She then had 3 more fractures after this and now has several fractures in her ribs. She is in tremendous pain.

She is now just lying in bed, can hardly eat or walk. She is losing about 3 pounds a week.

It seems as though she has lost her will to live as her daughter just died from stage 4 lung cancer and she lost her husband in June 2004.

Are there any treatment options for her? Is there a chance for recovery?

My mom seems to think that she will recover. I think it is denial as she is now facing the fact that she has lost her father and sister in a matter of 8 months and now possibly her mother.

Hello

There are many treatments for multiple myeloma. There are very aggressive treatment regimens, as well as some that are easier on the body.

About chances for recovery, it all depends how well she responds to treatment.
