its been a while since i posted and im not sure if anyone will remember the previous posts ive had, but i just wanted to give an updated post and get some input on what could happen next or what is going on, and maybe i dont understand everything.
a little background info
my mom (47 now) was diagnosed in february 2007 with pc. she went in to the doctor having bad stomach pains thought it was maybe just gas. they looked at her gallbladder in the ct cause thats what they thought it was, and then they found the tumor!! her tumor was said to have been wrapped around her aorta i think is what it is. they started her on the gemzar cycle, and also at the same time tarceva (oral). Her surgeon at the time tried to perform the surgery (surgery for about 3 hours) and said it was just too risky with the placement of the tumor!!
new info
she was referred to another surgeon after healing and stuff b/c after more chemo the tumor had shrunk some so they thought it would now be possible to perfrom the surgery, and he said he thought my moms case was very unique and he thought he had a great chance of succeeding with the surgery, so my mom took that big jump and said shed do it again!! the surgery this time lasted for 91/2 hours..and with it being so long my whole family waited and just knew he was doing something and hoped it was good!!! we met with the doctor after, and said theres no way he could have done it, he had transplant team specialists come in to look at the situation, and see if something happened how quickly they could rebuild the artery, and everyone still said it was too risky. SO they did not remove the tumor, but they did remove some of her colon, appendix, and put something in to relieve the pressure from the artery. she is no longer a surgery candidate due to scarring from radiation and surgery. the doctor ordered her to stay on tarceva (oral) and thats all shes been doing. since the time of her diagnosis shes lost probably close to 100 pounds. she tries on smaller clothes today and they still fall off. she continues to eat, but continues to loose!! she is becoming tired all the time, and all she wants to do is lay on the couch. the past few days she hasnt been herself...shes been very nauseated (could be caused by chemo) and blah.
This is really where we stand now, and im just looking for opinions on what could happen next, although only one person knows!!! shes the first in our family to have this kind of cancer, so its new to us all!! any help, advice to my family and i would be greatly appreciated!!
and by the way everyone whose posted on this site, my thoughts and prayers are with you!!
