my dad was diagnosed with pc and mets to the liver he had severe jaundice and is always vomiting, he had a stent put it the bile but hasnt really helped. although he is starting chemo next week i am still worried. the doctor hasnt given us a time frame, is this a good sign. is this stage 4 cancer, can someone please help me, i am a lost daughter

Nee66, I am sorry about your father's diagnosis. I am afraid that if it has metastasized to the Liver it is a stage IV cancer. Pancreatic cancer is one of the worse cancers a person can have because it can cause so many problems and because it is so aggressive. He really needs to get aggressive treatment.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

thank you very much, he is hopefully starting chemotherapy next week, do you know what is the latest chemo method or drug that is used, any tips would really help me.

I am not too up-to-date on the chemotherapy options for Pancreatic Cancer. For decades, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was the most widely used chemotherapeutic agent in metastatic pancreatic cancer. Now I hear and read more about gemcitabine as the gold standard. It is less toxic than 5-FU and therefore has fewer side-effects. I am sure there are other research projects working on combinations of chemotherapy agents.

Have they told your father what type of chemo he will receive?

No, not yet, we find out this week, but it seems it takes to long to start chemo, considering he was diagnosed with this a month ago. Thanks for your reply

My mom has stage 4 pancreatic cancer with liver mets also and she is taking palliative chemo. She doesn't have any side effects from the chemo. Although everyone is different. The chemo she takes is called Gemzar ( or Gemcitabine). They are thinking about putting her on a daily chemo pill as well called Tarceva. She has pretty good quality of life right now. Hope this helps some.
