we got to the hospital around 5am her surgery was to start at 7 but actually 7-8was prep time and talking to her anestesiologist.
her guesstimated time of surgery was 4-6hours
ended up 3&1/2!
It went very well the one cancerous tumer3-4cm was removed completely and a small portion of the diaphram it was connected to. two very tiny ones forming were oblated and the two nodules they werent sure of was found to be a marking from birth(alot of people are born with them) safe no more growth and no need to remove them-so as a result because it was not near a main artery yet instead of 40% original plan -He only had to remove 5%. (how wonderfull is that) she didnt even have to go to the ICU this time.-she went straight to recovery and by 5pm we got to see her in her room. we didnt stay long just enough so she could hear each of us and get her the so wanted ice chips!...they claim they will try to get her up a bit tomorrow-so far we are VERY fortunate. I am soo thrilled to report this. I hope some of you others have some good news to report as well.
He also said he saw no trace in any lymph nodes ar anywhere eles as of this time. they said she may be up and homein around 5 days. once she gets the pain under control and walking and all bowels working- she lost no blood this time Thank you all for being there. |

| Wonderful news - so glad that it was far less than you all thought it might be and hoping that your mother recovers from her operation quickly. All best wishes for her recovery. |

| Vee Smith-thanks-I really think shes going to this time! she was sitting up today already and called me to ask me to bring in her vicks and caugh drops (the dry hospital air makes her dust allergies worse and she not allowed to take her allergy meds yet. my one brother saw her today and me and my other brother are going soon .. she may possibly get home this weekend. Dont know if she wants to go home or come to my home. |

| shes home and at my home today and maybe the next couple of days -shes walking(not fast) but able to get to the bathroom and get herself pretty much what she needs. she just has trouble getting in and out of bed-I think she wont be staying here very long shes anxious to get home she will have to do more radiation I think. The Dr restricted only lifting and driving -he will see her in two weeks. shes doing great. thanks for listening glad my story isnt carrying on a long time- not saying she wont run into problems down the road but for now things are pretty darn good-shes still with us-our miracle number 4 in two years! |

shes doing well so far-her two biggest complaints are that she tends to roll on her incision side at night and wakes up fairly sore all morning - shes also complaining more about how exhausted she is all the time. I got angry with her yesterday when I found out she decided to take a shower when no-one eles was in the house. (she admitted it was way too much-and will be more aware of her bodys needs and not what her mind wants to do) she promised dhe wont do that again..(uh ha-sure)
dont get me wrong her persistence and independent attitude is to be commended....just cant get it through her head that major operations take more time to heal and she needs to be patient and not push things along soo fast- that she will get stronger everyday and its not worth the risk of reinjury and another trip to the hospital.
she stopped her vicodin two days out of the hospital and stopped for the most part her tylenol now that shes home. I just pray that her mind stays healthy enough to get her through full recovery without losing her common sense. I do call her every morning to see how her night went, every afternoon just to keep tabs and every evening before she goes to sleep what more can I do? I cook enough on the weekends for me and my DH and to take to her and my brother -enough to last most of the week for her tired or depressed dont feel like cooking down times. and we (my two brothers ,our husb and wives get together at her place EVERY Sunday...she cooks or we order something or we take her out-her choice) Its great we can all do that I feel very fortunate to have such a close family- and its good for mom and her recovery to know that she played a big part in the outcome of her children....good job mom! |

You are so right.... good job mom!! Yeah, recovery from major surgery does takes some time and she might be rushing it a little, but at least she seems motivated to recover and that IS half of the battle.
As long as she is not lifting heavy objects or working to the point of exhaustion, she should be fine.
If you have concerns, certainly, call her medical team. _________________ Jim

| thanks brainman-and I will call but that-I dont think she will try???? hope not! She just hates to sit around and is going crazy because she is not aloud to drive untill she gets the ok from her surgeon. The only thing (its seems cruel) that seems to slow her down is to remind her that she is doing great and may not have been with us for the last going on 3 years and that she doesnt want to ruin it now with all the miracles she has been given so far. ans so it takes time-Im sure I dont understand exactly whays shes thinking or how she truly feels. All I know is how appreciative us kids are that she IS here and IS able to pull her thoughts togeher to push on. Id hate to see her hurt herself more in hastey thoughts. |

moms next phase of treatment(theyre calling it preventative) (um oh-kaay) in about two weeks she is going to (if they can Iv her) get iv treatments for 3-4 months but they didnt say what it was yet or how often -guess will know after the first one they say its a 4 hour drip-anyone experience anything similar? or is that too vague of a question?
Oh and we did get our 2nd puppy which helped us through this tremendously. and even made mom happy. |

Hi, Sheila.
It's really too vague to identify just which chemo they are thinking of, but others who have had treatments will probably have suggestions.
What kind of puppy? They are soooooo sweet when bumbling around. |
