I have had a huge mole on my back that my mother always worried about. Then it became my wife that was worried about it and kept constant watch on it. Over the last month or so, she has noticed that it has started to seperate into three different sections and has about 4 different colors in it and it's shape is very irregular. Anybody heard of anything like this? Thanks in advance.

Hi, jyperium - Any mole that starts changing should be checked out at once. It would be sensible to see your doctor and/or a dermatologist.

Always better to error on the safe side rather than risk melanoma...... go to a boad certified dermatologist ASAP and get the rascal removed and biopsied..... If it's benign, what's in a scar -- particularly one on the back ?....

I always considered myself fairly educated on the ABCDs for melanoma; visited a dermatologist for an annual skin exam (I'm a Yank but solid Scots-Irish and English on both sides of the family, fair skinned and hazel eyes), and visited a podiatrist every year but still managed to confuse a growth on my toe for a calloused over wart..... which panned out to be a melanoma and I'm still kicking myself over waiting 7 + months to go back for a biopsy after I first noticed it.....and dismissed it.

I guess I'm "lucky" that I caught it at Stage IIA, but would it have been Stage IA 7 months prior ? I know it's not healthy and certainly NOT productive to play "what if" but my point is not to make the same oversight that I made and thousands of other men have made -- which may end up costing us our lives.....

My bottom line now is that if something is on your skin that shouldn't be there, then have a derm take it off ..... Find a derm who subscribes to the philosophy of "when in doubt, take it out" ...

My 10 cents worth .....

Good luck and may God protect you ....

Hi jyperium. I am sorry about your health concerns. I totally agree with Vee and HaoleBoy that you should have it checked out. As Vee said, better safe than sorry.
