I thought I would move one of earlier posts over from the General Cancer forum to the Melanoma/Skin Cancer forum so fellow mel warriors could check it out if interested....

Regards, HaoleBoy

I've just finished reading Dr David Servan-Schreiber's book "AntiCancer: A New Way of Life" (published September 2008 by Penguin Group) and it is an astonishing and brilliant read.

Dr. Servan-Schreiber, a 14 year brain cancer survivor, explains the complex cellular biological and chemical processes behind cancer in easy to understand terms and then, in my opinion, launches a tour de force in linking the explosion of cancer in Western societies to the industrialization of the Western diet since WWII (1940) as the prime culprit.

Servan-Schreiber then goes on to espouse an alternative diet that is based not only on Asian, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisines, but also on what many if not most Americans and Europeans ate prior to WWII.... Servan-Schreiber provides well documented evidence that these food sources provide potent augmentation to our body's natural biological and immune system's defense against cancer’s metabolism... and unlike contemporary industrial foods, does not provide additional fuel for cancer's growth and spread by aiding and abetting the processes of inflammation in our body.

The beauty of Servan-Schreiber's book is that it is a scientific based book. As an MD of modern, Western style medicine, Servan-Schreiber is not advocating an alternative therapy per se; rather, he advocates an alternative diet which used to be the norm among Americans and Europeans, while borrowing some new tips from the East, which is integrated with modern, Western anti-cancer therapies....

Since melanoma tends to be an immuno-sensitive disease, combined with the fact that what we eat clearly impacts our immune system, I think this book may be of interest to my fellow melanoma warriors....
