My sister was dx with Melanoma in 1990. In Feb. 2005 they discovered that it is now in the groin lymphnodes. I am not sure what to expect, if this is terminal? Can surgery be done, and if so, what is the remission rate?

There is some incredible information out there on the internet.

The most understandable, and indepth that I have found to date is on the mayo clinic patient site at

Knowing the stage is the most important factor in determining survivability. That information you will have to get from your sister.

Good luck hon.

I was just diagnosed with melanoma and mine metastasized to my lymph nodes in my neck and ear area. They will be doing surgery to stop the spreading, which is common. The previous reply is correct, you should find out what stage they are at. Surgery is usually always the answer to remove the cancer. Find a good surgeon and good luck, if it's caught early, they should be fine. I would suggest a discussion of Interferon with the oncologist, to boost the immune system... Good Luck

I'm curious about the original melanoma from 1990. What was the stage then? Did it spread slowly to the lymph nodes over 15 years? I was diagnosed with a very early melanoma almost 3 years ago. I've never heard of it showing up at a secondary location after such a long time. Has anyone else? I wish you the very best of luck.
