Father having prostate cancer

Any idea on swelling is a guess. Remember that just because you have cancer does not mean that every thing that is wrong with you is cancer related. There is a good chance this IS cancer related but maybe not. Could it be that he has enlarged lymph nodes that cause a backup of fluid ?

Often people who have lymph nodes removed get swelling in legs and ankles. What does the doctor say?

Hi

I just came to know through some of local news papers that QMR technology works effectively to cure advanced cancer(not sure about Prostate Cancer).

Can anybody help to get more information regarding this technology.

The only thing I found was in a paper from India. The article contained this statement, "For terminally ill cancer patients, a new palliative treatment was unveiled ".

"palliative care" is defined as any treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than striving to halt, delay, or reverse progression of the disease itself or provide a cure.

What the role would be in prostate cancer is beyond me. Generally however, prostate cancer is considered very slow growing as compared to many cancers. Other forms of cancer such as lymphoma have slow growing and fast growing forms. The slow growing ones are called indolent and are much harder to cure than the faster growing forms. Many treatments are effective only on very fast growing cells.

Keep in mind I know NOTHING specifically about QMR but if it "cured" 1% of advanced prostate cancer I think it would be in the headlines world wide.

Hi

After Chemo his PSA was 3.2.But now its his PSA was 5.6.Almost double in a month time.
Not sure what Is left to do. I think the only thing left is Pray to GOd.
Any adivce?
Even doctor has told there is nothing left to do after Chemo(In India).

Any Advice?

Hi

Still bad news is coming, now PSA for my dad is 14.
He is complaining of back Pain(which we know that it had spread to Bone) but he don't know.How to tackle with the Pain atleast?

One more question is upto what level PSA level will increase i.e what will be upper limit for PSA so that our will body will with stand?

Any advice is there any thing still left?

I do not know of any guideline or rule on how high PSA gets before your body is overcome with prostate cancer. I think it depends on many factors such as how much psa your individual cancer produces and where the cancer is in your body. For instance all PCa does not produce the same amount of PSA in relationship to the amount of tumor in the body. Also the cancer can be in the lymph system, bone, liver, lung, or brain. Some of these are more fatal.

I have read many documented reports of men with PSA readings into the thousands and heard reports as high as 11,000.

I just do not think there is a guideline on this. Others here may know more.

I think the likely approach to pain control will be through narcotic drugs furnished under a doctors direction. This includes pills, patches, drips, etc. That means these questions are best directed at the doctor because there is nothing you or your Dad do independently.

Palliative Radiation (not to treat the cancer but to control pain) is often effective. See a radiation oncologist.

If he actually has a compression fracture of the vertebrae from the cancer, an orthopedic doc should be able to fix that quickly with a new quick epoxy injection process that is very effective and often used with multiple myeloma (another form of cancer that usually weakens the bones).

I am sorry to know your father is having such a problem.

My dad also had a similar back pain problem.He undergone for radiation. Now he feels better. He is also a hormone resistance patient. So consult with radiation oncologist.

The tablets like morphine are very useful in cancer pain management.
In India it is available in cheap cost. For my father Dr prescribed vermer-10 mg (one Re each).

My dad also taking steroid tablets.

So as of now my father is not feeling any pain.

I am also from India (Tamilnadu and taking treatment in Coimbatore city). So I would like to know that which state
you are belongs to and where are you taking treatment for your dad.
