Please could someone help me understand this:
spiculated mass right lower lobe superior segment Neoplasm is favoured....granulomatous diease is the differential.
Slightly prominit right hilar node
Non specific nodule right lower lobe psoteriorly NO finding to suggest heipatic or adreanal metastases.
Doc ordered biospy and bronchoscopy..
This was picked up by a CT scan with contrast..........why does it or do they say its cancer before they do biopsy |

Bonnie,
Because of the characteristics of the image. A spiculated mass in that location has a good chance of being cancer. You're doing the right thing. A bronchoscopy and biopsy is the only way to find out.
best regards,

well that mass was cancer.......a squamous cell carcinoma....I had a lobectomy four weeks ago yesterday. Been a roller coaster and the ride is getting easier each day. The surgeon said no chemo or raditaion needed they removed half of my right lung.
Anyone you know who has gone through this sure could help me understand what comes next as far as healing goes.
Thanks again |

I am so happy for you. My sister just died from the same thing that she had let go for way to long. You caught yours in time and I am so happy for you. No cemo or rad. is wonderful. Just keep following the doctors orders and you will return to normal soon. We think my sister had hers well over a year and just kept believing it could not be cancer. Had phnemonia three or four times in one year and still didn't listen to us. She was my twin and I will miss her. God Bless you
In memory of my sister Linda who passed away on 6-11-05 60 years old on 6-8-05 God be with you, you will do great.
Listen to your inner self and keep talking with your doctors. |

Your are so right about listening to your inner self. After 20 trips to doctors and emergercy rooms finally someone took the time to care enough to really look into it. Its a rough road this recovery......seven weeks today I get couple good days then five terrible ones.
As long as I stay focused I will come out the winner with this fight with the monster......MR. C

Bonnie,
My sister was from Texas. She told me that in September of 2004 she had not been feeling well with sores to the head, and just plain trouble. She also visited doctors often. She was also on pain medication for a
cronic back problem, which probably masked some of the symptoms. They drove out at Christmas and we had a good 3 weeks together. Christmas eve she did get a really bad cold. They waited one week then headed back to Texas. In March she flew out for a wedding, and by the time I picked her up at the airport, she could not breath. I ran her to our urgent care clinic when we arrived at my home town. The doctor said she had lobal phnemonia. They took x-rays but were never read her because she was flying back within the week. I mailed the x-rays to Texas and she took them to her doctor. Still nothing happened until she couldn't breath one evening in April. Her kids and husband took her to the emergency room. Within three days they had diagnosed her with cancer.
Same kind as you. Why do doctors not listen to us people. We now our bodies. She even had a x-ray in October 2004 and it showed nothing. Just remember to keep on top of this at all times. This is a cancer that can be controlled. God be with you. I am still in shock just from loosing her. Keep in contact with me if you need to. Im an old lady that works at a middle school as a paraprofessional in the classrooms with 7 and 8 grade kids. Just love it. Can't wait for school to start, because the evenings long her. Take care. Glad you answered my reply. You can reach me at ljfrost@quik.com anytime if you just need to talk.

| I thing you're doing the right thing. A bronchoscopy and biopsy is the best option. |

My mom had a small (>1.5 cm) adenocarcinoma removed three weeks ago and had 1/3 of a lobe removed. No sign of mets and the thoracic surgeon said he got good clean margins all around. I think he did not do a full lobectomy due to a prior history of low platelets. The local oncologist is suggesting a 4 round treatment of carboplatin/taxofere because of the success of recent clinical trials showing reduced reoccurence. I think we should get a second opinion but she is reluctant saying that this oncologist has been highly recommended. I am mostly concerned about the treatment and her platelets which have been stabilized due to a boost with prednisone. Otherwise my mon is 67, very active and feeling great. Any opinions?
A concerned daughter. |
