From Anna,

Hi all, I'm not new to MM. My Dad has had it almost 11 years. I have several MM boards I'm on. One thing I ask is did any of you with MM or people you know with it have nose bleeds as an early symptom? Besides having pneuomina 4 times in 2 years Dad started having nose bleeds. So far have only found 2 other people with nose bleeds.

Your friend,

Anna

My mother was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago.... that was one of the big signs we had before she even got the official word. She would get them off and on for the past 5 months. Also, she noticed that if she would get a cut, it would take forever to clot. She's now had 4 chemo treatments and the nosebleeds are still a big problem. I wish I knew if we can expect it to stop once the cancer is under control.

From Anna,

Hi Chris, Dad had his nose bleeds cortized several times before they thought that he was having a heart attack. It was that he didn't have enough blood in his system and what he had was overworking his heart. If I remember right after they gave him 2 units of blood the nose bleeds stopped. Of course it could have been some treatment he was getting to. May I ask if your in the USA or overseas? I've only found one other person for USA with nose bleeds as a symptom. What chemo is she doing. What does the Dr. say about the nose bleeds? Maybe she needs some red blood. Like I said they gave Dad 2 units. Just a thought.

Anna

Hi Anna - I am in the US (Pennsylvania). Actually as I type this she is on her way to the ER to have it cauterized again. She had it done yesterday but it didn't seem to take very well. Right after she started chemo, she received 2 units of blood. She didn't have any nosebleeds right after that... but it has started again (about 3 weeks later). Maybe that is the answer like you said ??

They said she is not a good candidate for a stem cell transplant because she is 68 and has reduced kidney function. Instead, they have started her on Velcade and Doxcil. She does 2 Velcades then 1 Doxcil treatment. So far she's only had one Doxcil.

It's very encouraging to see that your father has had this for quite some time. I just hope we can get her through the ill effects of the chemo. When she was diagnosed a few weeks ago and before starting treatment she was fine.... maybe a little fatigued only. Now that she's started this chemo, it's been one battle after another... back pain, bone pain, rash, nosebleeds again and very tired. I guess we gotta get through all this though if she wants to have any quality later.

Thank you for writing. Please keep in touch
Chris
