Hello everyone,
This is my first post here at CancerForums.net, and I apologize if this is considered a "link" to another site -- according to the Terms of Use agreement it's OK to post a link to a personal blog. I hope that I am not angering the administrator or other members with my post.
My Uncle was diagnosed with a malignant astrocytomic tumor in the upper region of his spine in early '08 as my grandfather was dying of esophageal cancer. According to what I've learned, an astrocytomic tumor is generally in the brain, and most patients with this diagnosis don't have a high survival rate. As you can imagine, these events have jostled our family, and with my uncle's ongoing battle with this disease (and the partial paralysis he has been experiencing) we've discovered that discussion and networking are a helpful regimen for the fear and depression that comes with a diagnosis such as this.
My Uncle is an amazing, caring man who has a wife, two young children, a nice house, and up until this diagnosis he was doing wonderfully with his specialty contracting business. Now, he is stricken with occasional paralysis and numbness in his legs and astronomical hospital bills.
At this point, he has started a Blog which has started to help with his experiences, and I believe (hope!) that it has also been helping others with their own personal endeavors.
His blog is here: http://cancerforum.wordpress.com/
This has become his place for venting and release - his blog is becoming a very important place for him to record his thoughts; particularly those he doesn't normally share openly. If any folks with cancer are looking for a place for release, I would highly suggest trying a free blogging service to help you and your family cope (Wordpress works great.)
For those of you who can help with this difficult time, we would all appreciate your feedback and support based on your own experiences. Any medical information you can help to shed light on would also be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all for this wonderful forum. I believe it is a help to us all.

Hi Josh. First, your link is totally acceptable.
Second, I am very sorry about your uncle's cancer. To be honest, I have never ever heard of an astrocytoma outside of the brain itself. Astrocytes are one of the glial cells that form the framework of the brain. For them to exist anywhere else in the body must be extremely rare. Most astrocytomas are really not that bad. I have lived with a "cousin" and much worse glioma for over 16 years.
I am also very sorry to hear about your grandfather's death. Cancer has really touched your life!
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

Thank you very much for your condolences.
I've recently become involved with a dietary program which involves optimizing your overall health, and claims to assist in the elimination and prevention of cancerous disease.
The process involves first and foremost, a colon cleanse. Apparently a lot of disease starts from the "junk" that has accumulated in your colon over time, which releases toxins into the body and creates a breeding ground for parasites. These toxins and parasites are suspected to play a large role in the development of many types of cancers and other diseases.
After the colon cleanse (which is absolutely disgusting, by the way -- you pass the nastiest stuff you never knew existed inside of you,) you put yourself on a healthy diet. With these toxins and parasites out of you, your colon is able to healthily digest and absorb nutrients without absorbing any of the toxic "muck junk" that was removed in the cleanse.
In addition to a healthy diet, it is VERY important to keep your body's pH at about 7.365 which is an alkaline state, whereas most people have a pH BELOW 7 (which is acidic.) From what I'm told (and have read,) an acidic environment is optimal for cancer -- it cannot live in an alkaline environment.
Also, foods that are produced with synthetics such as hormones and preservatives are a huge no-no. Dairy products also produce mucus in the body, which is a food for cancer, so dairy should be kept to a minimum (I still plan to stick with a little organic milk from time to time.) Red meats aren't the best for you either; your body uses more energy to break these down when it could be using the energy to boost your immune system.
One of the food supplements I'll be taking also contains hemp seed protein, which I've learned is much healthier for you than soy protein -- it is not "Marijuana" but a by-product of hemp and does not cause the psychoactive effects of Marijuana -- basically, this supplement contains less THC (the stuff that makes you "high") in it than there is mercury in your tap water or than there is arsenic in wine.
There are many programs out there which promote a balanced pH, high-protein diets, food supplements, colon cleansing and more -- I'm not going to post a link to the program I'm with since they also a MLM system, but I'm sure a quick Google search will put a lot of folks in the right direction.
I've been reading a lot about overall health versus cancer, and have been finding some very positive results -- an optimally healthy person is much, much less likely to suffer from chronic disease such as cancer, and most of all, it seems optimal health can often eliminate cancer completely if caught early enough.
An aunt of mine (my family has been cursed with cancer) was diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her lungs--she wasn't expected to live much longer at that point. She underwent many months of chemo and radiation therapy which was just unbearable -- she quit the chemo and instead started seeing a nutritionist who put her on a very strict regimen of healthy foods. After a few years of progressive results while on her diet, my aunt is now 100% cancer free (as 100% as you can officially be after already having been diagnosed with it, anyway.) She now continues her diet to prevent from future incidents.
At 28 years old, I figure I should start early -- I already know I have digestive issues due to the junk I've eaten in my life (and the orchestra in my belly) and expect this diet will change a lot.
As a warning, do not cleanse your colon and eat bad foods afterward, or even worse, don't drink alcohol -- your colon is absorbing everything faster and more efficiently since the layer of gunk is no longer there, and any bad stuff you ingest will also absorb faster, potentially causing sickness or other problems.
I wanted to share this information as it seems to be very valid and effective for many people. A healthy diet (might want to flush that colon, too) just may save your life! |
