Just had my 4 monthly MRI. Described as stable compared to last MRI BUT in going back over MRI results since Jan 08 there is now showing a very small incremental change compared to Jan 08. I was told millimetres. The results are going to a board review on Monday and it was suggested I should still be on a watch and wait at this point, another MRI in 4 months. This since I am not experiencing any symptoms. Freaking out a bit at this point so any insite would be really welcome. Is this significant enough to be considered regrowth? The NeuroOncologist seemed to think this was not al all unusual immediately post surgery and that they often stabilize later.
Background,
Grade II Oli 90% removed in August 07. No defects from surgery or cancer. Gene deletions present. |

Oh dear plugh, I can only imagine who worried you must be. In 2005 when my grade II returned, I had to wait for months before the cancer board gave their opinion. The waiting was indeed hard but during that time, the tumor did not noticeably change even though from 1992 to 2005 it had changed from a grade II to a grade III.
Plugh, you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. My your wait not be long. _________________ Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim and really good to hear from you. Given your recent reports everyone on the board was concerned but glad to see from your post on another thread that it was valuable family time.
Based on what I was told it seems like my Grade II never went away after surgery - just kept impercepibly growing with nothing detectable on the MRIs until now when they have enough history to go back far enough they can see the change. Dr was not going to send this to the review board until he heard how worried I was. It's only 18 months since surgery so for this to be regrowth seems to be very bad news. |

I'm so sorry for your concerns. Waiting is often the hardest part.
On the bright side. You at least have the gene deletions, so if they decide to begin with a chemo-radiation treatment, it has a good chance of being effective.
I know it's scary to think of undergoing additional treatment, but it's pretty well tolerated my most people, especially younger people.
I wish you the best. Keep us in informed. |

| So just spoke to my NeuroOncologist. Board review wants to proceed with watch and wait till my next MRI in 4 months. surgery was 21 months ago. Growth over the last 18 months is 2mm and no discernible growth in the last 4 months. Dr believes there will be treatment in the future but not sure when and not sure if chemo or repeat surgery. If I get symptoms or the tumor absorbrs the contrast on an MRI (this is apparnetly indicative of a change in grade) that will trigger an immediate response. So 2mm in 18 months not a lot and it is even possible it has stabilized again. |

Thanks for the thoughts which are greatly appreciated. Just had the new MRI results and no change at all so very good news. No change from the prior MRI or the MRI done after surgery so what's left is remaining stable. So after freaking a bit last time the next one is in December and back on the treadmill |
