Hello,
My mom was diagnosed in February with a high grade Oligoastrocytoma. She has completed her 6 weeks of radiation/chemo and last week was her first week of chemo. She had her 1st follow-up MRI last Wednesday. The neurosurgeon said there was still a small amount of enhancement and that was the area of concern. The radiation oncologist said today that the MRI looked great, no cancer but some swelling that is why they put her back on the steriods (she was having major neuro issues last week). How can that be, no cancer? I mean does she just mean there isn't any visable? Does it just mean that there are no masses for right now?
Thanks

Tonya, I just found out with my last MRI that I too have a small amount of the original tumor left after the surgery in 2005. I had noticed the area of enhancement all along but was told it was nothing to worry about. I am not sure what is happening in your mother’s case. It certainly is confusing when two doctors disagree or give you different answers. I would ask further about this. It could be that like me, she has nothing to worry about.

You and your mother continue in my thoughts and prayers.

Jim,
Thank you. Mom had her surgery to drain the fluid build up and they were able to find the CSF leak and repair it. She is doing well, we are in the room now and she just finished some chicken broth. I will question the dr's again. It just dawned on me that I have communicated with the radiation oncologist that mom does not want any type of prognosis and that her mental attitude is very troubled at times. I had emailed earlier in the week and had asked some questions that I knew mom wouldn't wan the answers to so maybe the dr was just trying to be as general as possible. I will ask for clarification. Thank you very much!
