Am a new member.. I wish I had found this forum much earlier Sad

My husband of almost 30 years lost his battle with this beastly cancer 2 weeks ago. He had a massive and sudden brain bleed. He had been diagnosed end of Sept./07, had a stem cell transplant in March/08, was declared in remission in June/08 and the cancer was back in Oct/08. He had been undergoing various chemos in order to attempt a donor transplant. None had been working. He was scheduled to try the last one 7 hours after he passed away.

The oncologist asked me about the time leading up to his ambulance trip. He said it may have been a myeloma site in the brain that ruptured. I didn't realize that this could happen. Nowhere have I read about it... and if my husband did, he didn't tell me.

Can anyone fill me in or direct me to a site that covers this particular topic?

Thanks so much

hi, im so sorry for your loss. Your very right it is a beastly disease. My mam was diagnosed in 2007 when she was just 45. She underwent a stem cell last year and we have been told this week that the cancer is back. They are also looking at a donor transplant. I have to say that thru all my searchin on the disease i have never heard of it bein in the brain. Maybe the doctor meant there was a site in the skull which i think is quite common. I imagine any myeloma in the skull could have an impact on the brain. Take care x

See this link http://www.cancereducation.com/cancersyspagesnb/a/mmrf/mm0608e/MM06-08cFullTranscript.pdf

This discusses low risk and high risk myeloma. Also check out the site for the MIRT. Myeloma Inst. for Research And Treatment. They have a number of papers and articles on MM and are probably the premier institute for treating MM. http://myeloma.uams.edu/default.asp

Per the 21 page pdf-high risk myeloma will sometimes migrate to the soft tissue, breasts, teticles, brain, etc. from the marrow.

Many cancer institutes are totally ignorant of the low risk and high risk myeloma ramifications

I'm truly sorry for the loss of your husband and the seemingly fact that his Dr's were/are so unaware of the current prognosis and diagnosis of MM.
