I went back to my doctor yesterday for another ultrasound. My uterine lining is thicker. Over 13mm. My doctor said it is too thick since I just had a period at the end of July. I also still had cysts on my right ovary and a collapsed cyst on my left. There was some fluid beside my uterus, probably from the leakage from the collapsed cyst. I also have a polyp or fibroid in my uterus. They weren't really sure what it is. My doctor said it could even possibly be blood. The ultrasound even showed some signs of adenomyosis. So, I am going to have laparoscopy and a D&C done.
I am kind of nervous that this could possibly be cancer. They never mentioned that it could be, but I am still scared. Does this sound like cancer? |

Hi Sandrak,
I am glad you are having more testing done. An abnormal pattern of vaginal bleeding in my opinion should be taken seriously--that is, serious enough to rule out the possibility of cancer. It may or may not be cancer. MOST of the time it is not, but because such patterns present a possibility of a condition being fueled by cancer, it warrants a D & C or biopsy.
Case in point. I have an identical twin. Her uterine lining was abnormally thick, mine was abnormally thick. She had multiple fibroids, I had multiple fibroids. She had ovarian cysts (and these can be quite common due to hormonal factors) and I have ovarian cysts. She had endometriosis, and I had uterine cancer. Unfortunately, it was not discovered until a hysterectomy.
Sandra, think and hope for the best (and I know its easier said than done)--but take prudent steps to rule cancer out. Time in diagnosing makes a BIG difference when it comes to cancer, therefore, pursue this to the point of cancer being ruled out. I had doctors proclaim to me I was ok and cancer free through ultrasounds. I was not ok.
It is scary dealing with the possibility of something being cancerous, but take the bull by its horn, and get the answers you need. Speculation without necessary testing becomes a form of torment to your mind. Keep us posted on how your tests turn out, and you will be in my prayers.
God Bless,

| Thank you so much for your prayers, maureen. My doctor is supposed to call me and let me know when I am going to have these procedures done. After the D&C, how long will I have to wait for the results to come back? |

Hi Sandrak,
I am not really sure, I never had one; and as you go along various threads on these forums, you see wide variation on how long before people get results for the very same tests. A lot depends on how your doctor/staff runs things. I recall my sister waited about a week when she took her D & C a few years ago--she had to call to get her results. Ask your doctor how long before you get your results. And, (as too often in my case), if I do not hear from the doctor's office after a week or more, I contact them. I know how hard it is to wait on something like this. Let us know your results here. Take care now,

| Thanks again. I am having the procedure on Monday at 11:30 so I will be starved to death by then! I wanted my husband to be there and he had to work that morning. I will post either Monday when I get home, or maybe on Tuesday. Thanks for the support. |

Sandra,
I will be praying and believing for a good report for you. My twin sister is having a biopsy on her colon Monday, I am climbing the walls with worry--I know how tough this can be, but the sooner you know what you are dealing with (or not dealing with), the more advantageous for you. I am believing the best for you,

I had the hysteroscopy and d&c yesterday. I had the most wonderful doctors and nurses. They really looked after me and took care of all my needs. I woke up in the recovery room with some cramping and the shakes I couldn't control. The doctor gave me some demerol through my iv and the shakes immediately stopped. I didn't talk with my doctor after the surgery, but my husband did. He said my doctor removed a polyp in my uterus and scraped away some thickening I had. What is the chance that either one of those could be cancer? Could my doctor look at them and suspect cancer, or is the only way to know is when the pathology report comes back? I have my recheck on Sept. 9. I hope that if the report comes back before then my doctor will call me. I feel great this morning. Really little pain and not too much bleeding.
Rmaureen, how is your sister doing? I pray she is doing good and gets a good report! I will keep you both in my prayers. |

Hi Sandra,
Glad to see you are doing ok after all of that! I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but unfortunately you will have to wait for the pathology to come back. Did your doctor say when the pathology report gets back to them, and if they will call you to give the results? I wouldn't wait for the recheck visit on Sept 9 to get your results--its rather a torturous wait. Call them next week if you don't hear anything. (I took a recent ultrasound over 3 weeks ago and would you believe the doctor just called yesterday with the results! I left a message inquiring about the results two weeks ago. I went down to the hospital myself last week and got the report from them--a few issues, nothing too bad on it...I am my own health care advocate--I have to be.)
My sister is doing fine, much better. Thank you for asking. The colonoscopy showed signs of early diverticulitis and she is to get her biopsy results next week for it. We are more optismistic now, her doctor told me yesterday the tissue looked healthy otherwise during the procedure--however, we will still be anxious to get the biopsy results. A little over a year ago she developed a massive staph infection after her hysterectomy, which later resulted in a hernia. When another surgeon went to repair her botched up repercussions from the hysterectomy, they found her small intestines had come out--pressing and stuck together against her skin. Lately she has experienced a great deal of pain in that area. She has gone through a lot.
When you hear any news about your results, let me know. I thank you so much for your prayers for us, there is no one on this earth which means more to me than my twin sister. We are beyond close. I will keep praying for you Sandra, I know how difficult it is to wait, and I am believing for a GREAT report for you! You believe for the best! Keep in touch. Again, I think you should call your doctor next week if you do not get your results this week.

Thank you rmaureen. I am glad your sister is doing fine. I hope she continues to do well and gets good news.
If I don't hear from my doctor this week, I will definitly call them next week. As soon as I hear I will post the results. I really think everything will turn out as benign though. Thanks again! |
