I’ve been combing the web for material related to pancreatic cancer for 7 months, since dad was diagnosed and have a few things to share which may or may not be of any use. Unfortunately not much about facing crises, palliative care, etc. None of this is prescriptive but could be a jumping off point for more research. I definitely don't mean to raise any hopes.

Biochemical dependencies: Some pancreatic cancers over-express the zinc receptor fourfold. Many are dependant on high amounts of arginine. This suggests a low zinc, low arginine diet may slow growth. Some research has indicated that l-canavanine, an arginine analog , may slow growth. L-canavanine occurs in unsprouted alfalfa seed but in large doses can lead to a number of illness, anemia and white cell count drop for instance but such doses are very high indeed.

Here’s a list of herbal sources which are being investigated as leads for pharmaceutical targets. Calendic acid from calendula. Thymoquinone from the black cumin, nigella sativa. Capsaicin from hot-peppers. Pyrethroids from feverfew. These compounds have shown efficacy against pancreatic cancer cells in-vitro and in animal models. But could be relatively safely included in diet regimes except for the feverfew which is pretty bitter.

Sloan-Kettering has a great website called “About Herbs” which has a good search interface I encourage anyone looking into complimentary or alternative treatments to use it.

For references to this material, I’ve put together a search thread at twine.com just search for “pancreatic cancer cure” there. Lots of additional material like recent trial and investigational drugs. Rexin-G and Sutent look very promising but like so much else thanks to stupid fda rules will remain largely unavailable.

Best wishes to you all.

Guytron,

Thank you for your post, my dad died almost 30 yrs ago at the age
of 49 to PC. I was a smoker so am at a dble risk.

Your message may help others w/ cancer. It doesn't look like it could
hurt anyone, and who knows you may have come up with some prevntive
measures.

I'm sure ith allyour research yu know that at least 9% of all PC's
are genetic.

So, I think we all should add an mrcp or ct scan to our yearly
physical.

I dont know why when a person hits a certain age, more of he family
history isn't used in the yearly exam!! Why ask for family history??

All the best to your Dad and his beoved son.

With the best intent,
Denise
