hi,
my husband got his biopsy results and they were inconclusive he now has to go and have a needle biopsy next week and then a week later get the results, its already been a month of waiting and now we have to wait another 2 weeks...
i have heard that its not unusual for bronchoscopy results to be inconclusive, does anyone know what are the chances that the needle biopsy could show cancer when the other test didn't, has anyone else here experianced this?
my husband doesn't really want to have the second biopsy because he knows there is a chance of a pneumothorax which he has had many years ago, we are both worried
also does anyone know what blood stained turbid fluid is? thats something that showed up on last biopsy and said there was also debris...
all this waiting is very hard, its all i can think about,
how does everyone deal with the waiting?
all together it will be just over 6 weeks of waiting by the time we get the next biopsy results...

You are so right, the waiting is horrendous. I remember while we were in the hospital for 2 weeks awaiting all the different test results being anxious all the time. Each time a dr walked into the room not sure if you would get a result or an order for a new test. My heart goes out to you and your husband. Hopefully you will get some answers soon and they will be good. Sincerely, Carolyn

Hi Shazzie;
My cancer was revealed by a bronchoscopy, two years earlier it was missed by the needle biopsy and sense the docs did not believe it was cancer, an opportunity lost. So a six week wait sounds ok, press on until you get the answer.

thanks for the replies Dan and Carolyn,
the waiting is very hard isn't it, i'm trying not to think the worst,
and hoping the needle biopsy isn't inconclusive as well,
the specialist did say it looks like cancer but can't be sure until the biopsy is done, he did also say it could be pre-cancer cells, what ever that means

Shazzie,
Many of us here have gone through the same horrible wait. One thing you don't want is another inconclusive report, that will delay treatment that much more. It is better to know what you are up against and then start the fight.
My husband and I live in a very rural area. Just to get to the hospital is a 3 hour drive. So needless to say, help is not a phone call away. I am doing all the care giving to my husband myself. Hospice comes once a week and so far has done nothing more than refill a few prescriptions for me.
As for family, well, they can surprise you. Sometimes they think they are intruding. Other times they just don't know how to handle the emotion of the situation and they figure staying away is the best mode of action. I had some of my husband's hunting buddies email me and say that they couldn't bring themselves to come see my husband because they were afraid they would cry like babies.
I found that by singling out one family member and having a heart to heart talk did wonders. I now have that person to cry to, to ask for help and most important, to come and visit. To the rest I say, "their loss".
Shazzie, go hug your hubby tight and tell him "it's us against the world". Always think of it as a united front, you have each other. You two will get through this regardless of what ultimately transpires. You'll be surprised at how much strength you do have inside.
Prayers sent out for a speedy diagnosis,
Charlene
