My mother, who was diagnosed with PC about 6 weeks ago, is complaining of constant nausea and a feeling of bloating.

This is after 2 weeks of radiation and two dosages of Gemzar.

Are these symptoms a part of the disease? She has tried taking a few different anti-nausea medications but none of those seem to help very much. Also, the doctors say that they can't do much about the bloating.

Are there any home remedies to alleviate the discomfort that people have tried? The nausea and bloating are making it very difficult for her to eat properly and maintain her weight and hemoglobin levels - which in turn affects the treatment.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Ascites, or accumulation of peritoneal or abdominal fluid, can be a side effect of this disease. Edema, or fluid retention in the extremities (foot/leg swelling) is also common. I take a 20mg Lasik daily and that seems to help my foot swelling (a little) but I have not been too bothered with ascites. Unfortunately, I think ascites must be dealt with by draining, something doctors often do not want to do.

I don't have much trouble with nausea, but Zofran is the drug of choice from what I hear. Good luck to you and you mom.

Thanks Adadio. With the information you gave me, I consulted the doctor and he ordered an ultrasound. Lo behold, they found a moderate amount of fluid in the adbominal cavity. Now they want to do a biopsy to figure out if the fluid is due to metastatis or if it's a result of radiation therapy. Guess we'll have to wait and see to find out.
