| My father who is 69 yrs old has a parkinson's desease but because his body is getting thinner eventhough he eats a lot and his mind sometimes is not in a proper behavior we sought a second opinion only to find out that he also have a liver cancer. Trouble came in when he have a liver biopsy. Complications arise like the liver never stops bleeding because the cancer spread throughout his body. Immediately he underwent an operation but the wound will not heal as normal as it is because the liver has a problem. Why must be that way?He is strong when we enter the hospital but right now he is getting weaker because of the pain throughout his body. His parkinson's desease is still mixing up. He is very irritated. We thought it was only parkinson's desease. Is it the right procedure? We are confuse? What is the survival rate for this condition? Anybody please enlightened me.... |

bonapink, I am so sorry to hear that your father has advanced liver cancer. The big problem with Liver Cancer is that the organ that is responsible for filtering out toxins (the Liver) is the very one that is sick. The buildup of those toxins can make his confusion worse, breathing more labored, affect his heart, make him sleep more and more, slow the healing process...... I am sorry to say, but if his medical team cannot restart his Liver, he probably has weeks rather than months.
You and your father and family are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

|
|
| My husband has Hep C (for over 25 years) and cirrhosis of the liver. In February he had an ultrasound that showed lesions so a MRI was ordered. That didn't give definitive results so a CT was ordered. The results showed a Hepatocellular carcinoma about 2.5 cm. We are waiting for our HMO to approve a visit to the Liver surgeon. In all that I've read about Hepatocellular carcinoma, it seems to progress quickly and give just months to live without treatment. Did we waist 6 months of treatment getting test results from the time of the ultrasound in February to now waiting for a dr appointment. Since he has cirrhosis, does that mean he can't have the tumor removed? Does this disease progress so quickly that a T1 tumor could turn to stage 4 in 6 months? He has had several fevers over the months for no apparent reason, his edema is pretty sever (he doesn't have the ascites but his legs are like tree trunks even on 2 types of water pills). Should I be screaming at the HMO to approve the referral because the waiting is killing my husband? The not knowing is driving us crazy. |

| Try posting a new topic here. Maybe you will get some replies. But yes I would be on the phone to the insurance company. It would be cheaper for them the longer they can postpone any treatment. |
