A little over a year ago, the right gland under my jaw grew swollen. I went to the doctor, he said that I had a throat infection, put me on some medication and then it shrunk but didn't ever return to normal.

In January, I got a very severe pain on the right side of my throat that hurts worse when i press on it. The gland on the left side of my throat under my jaw is now swollen. I went to the doctor, he looked at my throat and said that it was most likely minor throat damage that would heal in time.

It still hasn't gone away.

And my hair started thinning out on the lower right side of my head which isn't consistent with male pattern baldness but might be a sign of a thyroid issue.

About a month ago, I started getting horrible stomach cramps and chest pains, the former originating form the area near my liver. I took some medication for two weeks that got rid of the stomach problems but the chest pains remain.

I'm currently 21-years-old. What are the chances that I have thyroid cancer and what are the chances that it has metastasized and spread both lungs and my liver?

Hi Dasher10,

Welcome to the forum. I think you should make an appointment with your doctor about these chest pains, and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. It is impossible to tell whether a more serious issue such as cancer is at hand without testing. Thyroid issues can certainly wreak havoc on the body--get checked for hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hopefully your doctor tested your blood--or will test for these specific conditions.

For the past two years, I have had thyroid problems. Swollen lymph node in my throat, hair began to fall out, and a multi-nodular goiter emerged which is visible to the eye. Infrequently, it hurts. I was eventually referred to an endocrinologist, who ordered first an ultrasound, then a fine needle biopsy. It was not cancerous. I recently took another biopsy of it a couple of months ago, and it also showed no sign of cancer.

Sometimes, gas can also cause bad pain in the chest, as you know more commonly in the stomach. Have your doctor look into these chest pains ASAP. Medical sources advise to seek emergency treatment if you have sudden crushing, squeezing, tightening, or pressure in your chest. It's likely not cancer, but play it safe, and find out why these symptoms are occurring. Maybe someone with more insight on this will come along and post. Hope you get to feeling better soon, and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rhonda
