Hello everyone,
My Dearest Mom who has stage IV pancreatic cancer with mets to liver is in the hospital right now with a fever and intense upper right abdominal pain. The pain has been increasing over the last week, but really got bad 2 days ago. She is currently being treated with Gemzar and has a CT scan coming up in about a month. The Dr. told us that her fever and intense pain could be caused by dying cancer cells, which would be the best news we could hear. I was under the impression that the fever and pain meant that the cancer is not responding to treatment and is spreading. Could people please help me to clarify these statements? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi -- I'm sorry to hear about this pain for your Mom. I have just a quick tid-bit to offer. Is her fever coming in the days following her treatment with Gemzar? My husband had gosh awful fevers from Gemzar. We used a lot of ice packs to keep him cool from that side effect. He had a very good response to a doublet that included Gemzar.

I hope someone in this forum can offer more insight about the pain. My husband had a different cancer, so I have no knowledge about that issue.

Very best of luck to your Mom.

Hugs,
PBJ
