I'm 22yo male and I've been feeling something strange in my throat for 3rd week now, no pain, but maybe annoyance when trying to swallow, like a muscle spasm or whatever. on the 2nd week I started feeling something in my ear (sometimes ir disapears or most of the time I dont feel it because I use earphones frequently), considering the facts that is not going away, but progressing, I quit smoking immediatly and bought insurance (blue cross) which is under approval now.

I'm not going to the doctors till past my effective day (which may take couple more weeks?).

So my question is.. will it count as "pre-existing condition" ? or I should wait one more week after effective day, and when I go to doctor say something "for the record my pains lasts for about a week, off the record about 4-5weeks"?

Hi Anarxi. I am sorry to hear about your health concerns. Since I am not an expert is all health insurance issues, I cannot be 100% certain how your insurance defines "pre-existing". However, I know that all of the ones that I have had say that the disease has to have been already diagnosed for it to be pre-existing. You might want to call the state agency that controls insurance companies and ask them if there are state mandated definitions for what is and is not considered "pre-existing."

The good news is that you probably are not dealing with cancer. I really doubt that is it was cancer, you would feel like it was going away at times. This does not mean you should ignore it. Have it checked as soon as you can. I might be wrong and I would hate for you to have cancer and not know about it soon.

Keep us informed.
