Hi all,
I got a call from Dad's GP on Wed, saying Dad had severe lower back and stomach pain, needs to go to hospital. I took him, and he's had lots of blood tests, lots of xrays, and a cat scan, and is due for an MRI on Monday. His psa was 87 afew weeks ago, so he had recently recommenced hormone therapy. Last night has psa was 560.
Tonight the hospital doctor said they are confirming it's spread to his spine, and that they'll know more after Monday's MRI. The doctor also said it's gone into his bone marrow. His platelet count is 38, which they said was low. Doctor said he'll now be getting looked at by an oncologist (previously only had urologist).
I know I'll understand more after the results of the MRI, but I'm just beside myself with worry.

Not much I can say, but my thoughts are with you and your dad. I hope he gets relief and rest from the pain. Take care of yourself, too. _________________ Replicant

Sorry for the news Pam. Refresh my memory, has your dad previously had any hormone therapy? _________________ History: PSA's 6.7 neg. biopsy - PSA 16.6 neg. biopsy - PSA's 8.2, 8.1, 8.7 - Biopsy. 4+4 Gleason 8. Lap RP Apr 2004, age 52 All neg margins, nodes, and structures. (T2a). Post RP PSA: every 6 mo. <.1 until Feb, 08 (46 mos) PSA .1 - I then got sensitive tests (all in 2008) showing:
Feb .06, May .09, Jun .10, Aug .10, Nov .15 -SRT |

Yes, Dad's been on hormone therapy for quite a while. It was only when his psa climbed a little in May that the urologist decided to give him a break and see what psa did. Unfortunately, psa climbed to 87, so hormone therapy was recommenced.
At this stage, pain must be severe, but he keeps resisting the morphine offered. He admits he's frightened that once he's on morphine, it's over.
