My mom's ovarian cancer has returned after a 13-month remission. Her initial successful chemo for her stage III-C cancer was a combination of cisplatin and taxol administered by IP and IV.

She now has two recurrent nodes in the areas of her liver and colon, a climbing CA 125 and a worrisome area on her spleen. Her oncologist has given her a choice of carboplatin paired with either gemcitabine (Gemzal) or Doxil.

Anyone out there received either of these combinations? Side effects you had? Effectiveness?

Allison,

I'm sorry to hear about his recurrence for your Mom. That sounds like she had a nice run of being cancer free and hopefully is a good sign that she'll respond again.

I'm not up on modern drugs as my Mom had it over 25 years ago. I know she went through two lines of chemotherapy, so something must have continued to work. Hers was very late stage at diagnosis, but they also did multiple surgeries to keep removing the cancer.

I pray that this combination will work well for her. I'm sorry that we don't have a lot of answers for you. You probably know far more than I do about it after all these years and new treatments.
