Does anyone know of a hospital that will perform surgery on Pancreatic cancer that spread to the liver? My Dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and it has spread to the liver. We caught it early, he feels great! we dont want to wait till he starts to feel bad. A surgeon has alread told us he would not do surgery (whipple procedure) Does anyone please know of a surgeon or hospital in southern California that would do the surgery? PLEASE HELP!

Hi, sorry to hear about your father i also have a realitve with the same disease.

First things first you have to find out why the surgeon does not perform the procedure because our surgeon said to us that if he would have seen the cancer has spread from the primary site (pancreas) to a secondary site(liver) then he also would not perform the whipple procedure.

Usally the whippe procedure is performed when the cancer has not spread much outside the pancreatic area (im around 95% sure of this, please get someone to clarify).

We were also told by a highly respected doctor in the field of pancreatic cancer that if the cancer spreads to the liver then there is no solution that can lead to cure but medication can be given to stop/slow the growth of the cancer maitaining a good quality of life if effective.

Chemopherapy may be your first protocal in this situation to try and shrink the tumours in the liver and on the pancreas. Surgery on the liver is rarely performed due to complications.

If you have medical insurance one of the best hospitals that deal with cancer in the world is MD Anderson in TX. Maybe its worth traveling that extra distance for very high quality care.

Best of luck to your father and you will be in my prayers,

Bs3ac.
