Hello all. This is my first post. I've been reading your comments and gleaning lots of info from them. Of course, I don't understand much of it yet, but I'm sure I will in the near future.

Last year my husband's PSA jumped to 4.9 from 2.0 This year it has jumped to 11. He has an appointment with a urologist tomorrow. The same dr who did his biopsy last year which was negative. I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I can help him make the best choices possible. It seems that there is many varying opinions about what is the right treatment, etc.

A friend is really pushing him to go to one of Loma Linda Medical CTR facilities for Proton Therapy. Another website says ProsRcision...My head is spinning.

I'm no stranger to cancer. I've had NH B Cell Lymphoma 10 yr free, and in 2007 had breast cancer.

Any advice or thoughts on the Proton Therapy? I will continue to read.

The ICER report, Dec 22, 2008 is the only study I have seen comparing Proton with IMRT and Seeds. The basic conclusion was biochemical relapse rate was slghtly higher with Proton and Acute toxicty was similar.
The cost of Proton was 3X seeds and 2X IMRT without any signifcant benefits.
Patients on Proton speak very highly of it, especially the lack of side affects. This could be real or the placebo affect as those doing Proton expect these results.

Thanks John T. I know that people are loyal to whatever treatment they've chosen. It's almost impossible to pick the "best" choice.

My husband had his visit with the urologist today and he was very alarmed with the huge jump from 4.9 to 11 on the PSA. He seems to think a jump that high is more indictative of an inflammatory process & so he's prescribed an antibiotic for 2 weeks, then a return visit to see him in 8 wks. That visit will include a flowtest. and 2 wks before his return visit he'll hava a "free & total PSA done. So for now we'll just wait.
