Is it normal for a radiologist to change the number of recommended sessions from 10 to 15?

The doc said it was so he could give my dad a lighter dose of treatment.

Any insights would be appreciated.

My dad didn't feel any pain and felt okay after it was over. It's for his brain lesions.

Hi K. Changing the dosage (number and strength) of the radiation therapy is not rare... especially radiation of the brain. The brain is highly sensitive to radiation and they want to do everything possible to minimize damage to healthy brain cells. They take into account the person's age, general health and size of the tumor(s) in this recommendation.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear that he made it through the first "unknown" and probably has less fear now. Keep us posted on how he does. Brainman already answered your question and much better than I could!

Hugs,

This is very helpful. My dad is 82. Until he was diagnosed he was in what seemed to be very good health. Sure, the usual things for a man his age, but nothing that restricted him at all.

My mother is talking non stop this morning. She had her blood pressure checked yesterday and it is through the roof. In the middle of the night she had a bloody nose.

I am trying to convince her to see her doctor but she said my father is the most important person right now. Hard to watch her play the backseat person in this.

She is understandably completely shaken by my dad's condition. For the first few days of waiting for answers she was holding on to the belief it was all going to go away.

I can completely understand her need for that frame of mind.

This is such a weird time because I am not able to drive due to my broken ankle. So here I am with my folks, a middle aged woman, unable to do much more than simply listen and do minimal tasks around their home.

Your Mom needs to take care of herself so she's good for the duration of the journey ---- and beyond. Especially at her age. I was in my late 40's during my husband's illness and it hit me like a ton of bricks after he was gone. I had not tended to my own health, and as young as I was, it declined terribly. With high blood pressure, she needs to do something. Stress is a monster for manifesting in physical ways. I became quite the babbler during my husband's illness too. The mind races a mile a minute and so does the mouth. More ways that stress comes out! Shocked Let her know that she MUST take care of herself or she'll be no good for him. A little guilt trip doesn't hurt!

You're doing just fine, bad ankle (ouch!) and all. What a lovely daughter to be there for your folks. I'm glad you're at a time in your life that you're able to take this kind of time away from your own responsibilities.

Many hugs,
PBJ
