Havefaith:

Sorry I haven't responded but been out of town the past few days.

So it sounds like not having the have RAI may be a good thing???? Being a newbie at this, guess I'm just not sure whether RAI is better than simply having iodine? Or is this being done, because they're trying to reduce costs? (So many questions pertaining to this.)

But I'm in agreement with Aisha. This timeframe has been extremely too long. Is it that the doctors are not accurately planning each phase of this process?

But, also remember that God has a plan for all of us. And, maybe you are correct ... "the waiting is better". Maybe this happened for a reason. But like you, I want everything NOW and not TOMORROW. But sometimes we just need to sit still, pray and listen carefully to understand what we need to do.

God Bless you, sweetie.

hi,

welcome back, happy to see you. I have a rule in my life to always try to see in people positive things, there is always people or doctor that they are nobl. in any rule there always exeption so i will put those exeptions doctor infront of those who are nobl. god is watching me, from every bad person. in the history , somewhere was a man who kill mass of people, and everyone was afraid of him, and one poor man had to see him, everyone tell him to not go, that he is a murderer, but he didn't listen, he praid god god before to go and he went. when this killer meet hi make him sit in his best place in the house and did'nt touch him. the killer was so surprised how this poor man was not afraid of him Question so before he said good bye to the man he ask him why you was'nt afraid from me, the man answer is simple, if you want to kill choose the way because it is gonna be the same you gonna died in this life. so he let him go alive.

this is the god justice, all this story to tell you to never be afraid only from god, if some one will be bad with he will see the same thing from some one else..

take care and stay strong like a palm that no wind can move.

Sweetie, your English is fine! I understand everything you write. That was a very good philosophy.

So what is your primary language?

Unfortunately, I only speak English. Learned a little Spanish back in high school but that was 34 years ago. LOL

I have wanted to learn a secondary language. My grandma spoke French. She could speak very little english. But I always understood her when she started yelling at me! LOL

Unfortunately, my dad wanted me to learn French, but as a child I had no interest. Wish I would have listened to his advice. LOL

primary francais, french, but i will not yell at you Laughing

i try to learn spanish and italian Laughing they are so close to each other. my dream is one day to speak 5 languages Laughing .

in the past i read in the books someone speak 5 languages, i go nuts, it was a impossible idea for me. but it is possible , if you learn the kids early many language.

i feel in your post that you are calmer, than when you where diagnostic.
cancer give me a chance to remember to live, yes we can died so what Question we can died anytime. i did have a joke: one lady was in airplane the captain said we gonna crush. the lady yell, no impossible the doctor said i will die from cancer Laughing ( by the way don't think i am not serious about death, but laughing is good, give us seratone a chemical thing in our blood to improve our health, so for everyone 3 jokes 3 time a day after a big meal Laughing

we are lucky with the thyroid they said even after 30 years only 8% will died. today one lady was asking about some kind of cancer, i will not name it, in this way she will not know we are talking about her. i try to help her to give her link and information, but it was so bad, less than 5 % survive rate. i could'nt give her the link or the information, maybe she is gonna be in the lucky 5 % , if your expiration date is not finish. so i could wrigte anything to her. she will think nobody care, but it is better than to kill her with news.

really we have the best cancer, we can't camplain, at least we have hope. remember that. Smile

You're pretty funny. I also believe in laughter. I also believe that with everything bad in life, you can always find some good. A example would be my unemployment. I think God allowed me to remain unemployed because I have thyroid cancer. Being unemployed allows me to address the issue and get well so that I can work again.

As far as the lady you're referring to, make sure you stay in touch. I'm sure she knows by now her prognosis. But it also helps to let people know that you're thinking about them, and that you care. You might also provide her some comfort because you don't know if there is anyone (family or friends) willing to help her through.

In addition, she might also be a true fighter and defy the odds.

When I heard the word "Cancer" AGAIN, yes, I was very scared because you immediately think about death. But I also know that I've lived a good life, and have always treated others as I want to be treated. So when my day comes, I will be at peace.

But I'm also a fighter, and will fight to the very end. I hope your friend will do the same.

Zakia,

Have they said when you are starting your chemo yet? I wonder if you have a date?

You seem to be in good spirits anyway, which is good for your body and I really do believe that! I have another PET scan on the 13th (by birthday!) to see if my tumours are shrinking. I know they are going to say "yes" because I can feel the one in my neck has decreased in size quite a lot.

Hope you are doing fine, and you're feeling good. Maybe one day I will get to meet you - who knows eh?

Aisha.

Hi, Havefaith:

Haven't been online in a while.

My surgery is scheduled for this Thursday, so I'm getting a little NERVOUS!!

I will also be on a low iodine diet approxmately 30 days after surgery.

I have the same fears as you -- not knowing what to eat, but most of all how to live in the same house with my elderly mom while being radioactive.

If you're not going to have the Radioactive Therapy, why do you need to go on a low iodine diet???? I thought the low iodine diet was solely for the purpose of getting the Radioactive Therapy treatment which is followed by the full body scan?

I searched the internet for low iodine diets, but I'm still a little confused. Every diet I see contains low iodine foods, but how do you know when you've reached your maximum iodine intake per day? How do you even count your daily intake of Iodine when it's not listed as part of the nutritional count on the packaging?

It seems to me that, as with a low calorie diet where you can have only so many calories per day, the low iodine diet would be similar -- where you can only have so many grams or milligrams of iodine per day. If so, how many? And, how do you count it?

This is all so confusing.

Go to www.thyca.org which is a good place to start. I searched their site, but I still was unable to find answers to my unanswered questions.

I'm a very analytical person, so I want and need to analyze everything first! LOL

welcome back, wish the best for your surgery, may god help you.

why i am having the low iodine diet is because i gonna have iodine for the whole body scan but the iodine to kill the cancer maybe the 131 i may have it if i gonna have metastase in the whole body scan show. for the iodine i found many intersting link , i will post them max tomorro for you and others who may need it.

for the hospitals some tips bring a spray water you may need it after the surgery if they not allowe you to have water. you may need straws to drink is more easy for your neck. if i remember others tips i will post them.

this one link a good one

One of my main concerns about having a total Thyroidectomy on Nov. 5th is becoming Hypothyroid and gaining weight. So, I decided to search the internet for sample Hypothyroid diets in an effort to keep my weight under control.

Thanks, Havefaith. I'll just be glad when it's all over because I really need to get back to work.

Was is the "spray water" used for?

The info you sent at thyca.org was a little helpful. I read this before. My problem is that it does not explain how to calculate your daily micrograms. For example, it says "A low-iodine diet reduces iodine consumptionc(on most diets to below 50 micrograms (mcg) of iodine per day".

How are you suppose to know how much iodine each food item contains to know when you've reached 50 mcg/day?

If that's not crazy enough, I was also searching for Hypothyroid Diets, which was equally confusing. I was reading that once you have a thyroidectomy, you become hypothyroid and will likely gain weight. I would love to see a LIST of everything that YOU CAN EAT on a hypothyroid diet. Everything gives a very HIGH-LEVEL overview, then when you read what you CANNOT EAT, it completely wipes out everything you thought you could eat!! LOL

This is all so very frustrating.

Hi reina

tomorro is your surgery, keep us update after the surgery. this a link and they are so many tatlking about the diet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTd5j6rc9nQ

you ask if there is away to know your limit about iodine, this is the only way: you have forbidden food all what is diary milk and coming from sea.
you have the you can but not to much like rice spinach brocoli, etc. and you have the one you can eat in any quantity like vegetables and fràuits except the peels of potato. and no fast food or eating out and watch colour red brown and orange some contain iodine. use kosher salt..

good luck for the diet i begin mine soon and i know is gonna be hard i love all kind of food.

for the spray water is to use after you week up from the surgery and you need water and they forbide it so you can spray your mouth is allow.
