Hi all! I'm new to the board, but wanted to ask your opinion on something. Here is a little history about me, I had bladder cancer 6 years ago and had to have surgery 4 times and then chemo that is put directly into your bladder. I have been clean since the chemo. Praise God!

I had a lump come up on the right side of my neck that grew a good bit over 2 weeks, but has now stopped growing, but it sticks out enough that you can see it. The doctor gave me antibiotics to see if it was an infection and it didn't change in size. The doctor said he thought it was my thyroid so he sent me to have an ultrasound of my thyroid. Well nothing showed up on the right side where the lump is, but I have now been told I have a small nodule on the left side of my thyroid found which was found on the ultrasound. The girl doing the u/s said it was a small calcification and the radiologist just called it a nodule and from what I have read a calcification is more likely to be cancer. He suggested following up with another u/s in 6 months. I was then sent to have a CT of the chest and neck even though the radiologist said it would not be picked up on CT because it was small. On the report from the CT again nothing showed up where the lump is, but the neck CT report notes a soft tissue nodule adjacent to the skin in the posterior left skull base region. He suspects to be a sebaceous cyst. He then mentions small nodes in the area of the jugular veins, small nodes in the submandibular region and it says no definite adenopathy abnormal size criteria or significant mass or asymmetry. Then on the chest CT it says there are small lymph nodes seen in the axillary region, low density are in the anterior aspect of the left lobe of the liver, lung windows show vague denisty in the dependent lungs, propably dependent atelectasis and on the left area of the lingula soft tissue nodule near the pleura which has some associated stranding on adjacent slices. He says it is not definitely calcified (???). And again recommends following up in 3 to 6 months.

So my question is should I be worried? I have also had a couple of skin cancers and had stage 4 precancer on my cervix many years ago. So I definitely have a strong cancer gene or something. I don't want to take it lightly if I need to pursue this. What they may shrug off I may see differently since I have already had cancer. How would you handle this?

Sorry so long, I just don't know what to do.

Hi Wanda112267

Sorry to hear of all your concerns. First off don't panic but at the same time you should probably follow it up as this is causing you concern. The best advocate for your health is you so be all means give the doctor a bit of a push to look deeper. Try to avoid researching this on the 'net it is never a good idea as it tends to induce panic.

Good luck and remember we are always here to lend support.
