I am 32 and I have pretty much always had abnormal smears. I was diagnosed with HPV around the age of 20. I have had about 4 colposcopies, but I've never had to go any further than that yet. Does anyone know the likelihood of me actually getting cervical cancer? I'm so tired of going to get all these tests only to have them be false alarms, and I've pretty much slacked off in getting the colposcopies lately because it just seems to be a big waste of time...

Hi xeeca.

I know exactly what you mean. I had to go through so many colp because of my HPV (every 6 months!) and it seemed pointless after a while, but after having "false alarms" for a couple years, I actually ended testing positive for cancer.

Now, I'm not saying that you have cancer for sure, or that you don't. But I highly suggest to you going and getting tested on a regular basis. The last thing anyone wants is for something to happen and not being able to stop it in time if you didn't catch it early for testing.

Now, there isn't an statistic that I can tell you, but if you read the stories on here, a lot of women regret procrastinating going to the gyno.

Better safe than sorrry (as my dad would say).
