Hi, This forum gives me much comfort and hope. For those of you that do not know our story, I will share a bit of it with you. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in Jan. 05. Colon resection Feb. 05. In Sept. 05, the cancer had metastasized to his liver. Chemo started in Oct. 05 and lasted until Sept. 06. In Nov. 06, 80% of his liver was resected. My husband did not want to do more chemo and his doctor agreed that he had had enough for a while. Almost two years of living life to the fullest which was wonderful. Sep. 08, another tumor to the liver which was blasted with RF. Back to doing everything we could do to enjoy our lives. All is good until last visit in Oct. 09. Two new tumors, one of which can not be blasted with RF due to it's location. Doctor wants to surgically remove it and other tumor since he will be inside of him. He will do two wedge resections as the tumors are on opposite sides of the liver. Also, wants him to start chemo again. We meet with him next Tuesday to get our surgery date and game plan.
His prognosis was not great from the get-go but we overcame the odds. We did this with the wonderful physicians who cared for him, my husband's great attitude, and with the grace of God. As we go down this road again, I pray that we will be triumph again against this terrible disease. I pray for my husband and anyone has cancer or is caring for one with cancer. I feel as though some of you are my friends. I love to read your post.

| Thanks Brainman! You have been down this road and look at your attitude. Reading posts by you and others gives one hope but most of all, it makes me feel like someone is there with me on these journeys. We just do everything we can to fight the fight. Thanks so much for the prayers! I will be praying for you as well. |

| Lucinda-my mom has been down the road alot in 4 years and is recovering once more from the 5th major surgery-there is hope and its amazing what some bodies can recover from. she is once again looking forward to going home and beng with her family. I hope the same for you and yours as well-thoughts and prayers to you both. |

WooHoo! Just talked with one of the radiologists who does RF ablations and he said he would like to try and do RFA on the two tumors. Of course, we have to get our oncologists to agree but the recovery time will be nothing compared to slicing him open like they had to do last time. We see the oncologists on Tuesday so keep your fingers crossed. There is also the possibility that the ablation will be unsuccessful and my hubby will still have to have major surgery but ..... at least we have to try!  |

| hi..sounds like my case. after my cancer had gone to the liver it was in five spots [three small on left &two large on rt.] too much for surgerey so left section was cut out and rt. was ablated. chemo kept it down for almost two years and when it resurfaced i was going in for laproscopic ablation however a heart condition delayed this procedure. by the time i was cleared for the procedure it had grown too large and too close to something for the surgery team to try, unless it could be shrunk i was pretty much out of options. i went back for six weeks of erbitux and 5fu portable pump on alterating weeks and after six weeks of this the cancer was reduced 30%. i was opened up and there was so much scar tissue they could not cut it out so it was ablated. week later out of hospital.no follow up chemo.just scans every 3to4 months. held almost a year. back in dec 08 for lap.ablation. out in two days. that was last dec.17th. just finished scans {pet,bone and x rays ] return to liver and bone in hip. i am going in mon.to schelude my two procedures. i just keep on fighting and thankful for every day i get. it seem harder on my wife and daughter cach time. they refuse to give up and i try my best to keep going. i wish you and your family the very best. b.h |

wow - what strong people you all are. I am "going down the road" again and just look forward to being done with chemo in December and colostomy reversal in February 2010. It is hard on my family, 10 year old, 13 year old and husband. They are all so support though. Very disruptive, corruptive and awful disease.

April 07- radiation treatements X 6
June through December 07 - Folfox, 5 FU, Oxiplatin, Ativan
Feb 09 - recurrence with Tumor in Rectum
March - April - 3 1/2 weeks 5-FU Pump with radiation twice daily
May 09 - Resection with temp colostomy
June 09 - Dec 09 - Xeloda Chemo pill
Jan 2010 - hopefully successful colostomy reversal 
Current age - 45 |

| There are so many folks that keep going down the same road. Just when you think you are at the end of it, BAM, you are starting over on it. Thoughts and prayers for all of you traveling along the road again. |

Hi, We saw the oncologist surgeon today and the news was not what I had hoped exactly. He does not want to do the RFA as one of the tumors is too close to the lung and diaphragm and is on the outer edge next to the these organs. We are scheduled for surgery on the 11/12 which he will do two wedge resections. We are blessed that he can have the surgery so it is not bad news, just not the news I wanted to hear. After that they want him to do more chemo. We have not talked about the cocktails yet so not sure what he will have or even if he will do more chemo. We will cross that bridge when we get to it. Just wanted to post our latest news. Still praying for all of you and hope all of you kicking this disease in the butt!

Thanks for the update Lucinda - stay strong - it is indeed good news that they can give surgery another shot for part of the problem. How is your husband holding up? Tell him from us all here that he must keep fighting as long as he can!
Sounds like you have a pretty good team of Doctors who are carefully weighing all options. Hang in there and keep posting!

Thanks DulcimerGal. You really don't know how good it feels to have others thinking about you and praying for you. My husband is a little down to learn that the cancer has returned and that he has to have major surgery again. When they removed 80% of his liver, he had a very large incision. It was about 14 inches down his chest and abdomen and then about 10 inches around his right side to his back muscle. It was a long recuperation as he does a lot of physical things since he is a contractor. This time the surgeon said they will use the same incision but not as far to the right but will also go to the left. He said he will have a Mercedes emblem on his abdomen. Hopefully, all the incisions will be shorter so he can recuperate quicker. I just hope he keeps his winning attitude through out all of this. He has not said whether or not he is going to do chemo again. We'll deal with the surgery first and then the chemo.

wytyspy- Im glad hes a fighter too! It is difficult to keep positive-this whole thing is like one big roller coaster ride up down up down -but only we can contol how far we go up and how far we go down- If we can keep our expectations to a moderate level we can have our downs be short and our elation of yet another win as high as we can go. just return to the moderate level so not so wonderful news doesnt make one give up.
Tell your husbasnd to hang in there were routing for his next win!!  |
