When I last posted, it looked like we were heading for salvage radiation. Since surgery in March 2008, PSA results were 0.0 until August of this year - 0.1 followed by a 0.3 in September. Husband's surgical stage was T3aN0MX with a single foci of EPE. PSA prior to surgery was 6.4.

We have met a wonderful radiation oncologist whose office is about 1 mile from home. So far, husband had a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis plus a bone scan. The bone scan showed one "hot spot" in the clavicle (collar bone) and the hospital performing the test recommended a CT scan of the chest to rule anything out. Our rad onc and urologist have been in contact several times - they seem to work very well together - and agreed that to be safe, lets do the chest CT. That is scheduled for next Tuesday. Both doctors agree that with husband's current low PSA of 0.3 and more than one year of undetectable PSAs under his belt, the chances are practically nil that the CT scan will show anything. And, they also both agree that the salvage treatment will work very well for my husband.

Hopefully, once this test is done and we get the go-ahead, we can begin the set-up for salvage treatment and start the treatments. The rad onc hasn't finished her treatment plan yet pending the results of all the tests but in our initial consultation with her, she indicated that the treatment would be between 7 and 8 weeks and the dosage would be higher than 6,000 rads but probably less than 7,000. The urologist told us that the dosage would probably be somewhere around 6,500 rads.

I know there are many on this board who have gone through or are going through the same thing and are doing just fine. As always, any words of wisdom you might have would be appreciated.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Sephie,
I have been down the SRT and have done well so far. As my signature says I had no problems for 3 yrs and then my psa began to climb at a rate of .01 every 3 months. I pulled the trigger on SRT when it reached 0.1. I had a total of 68 GY and tolerated it very well. I had some burning and some tiredness on into the IGRT bu nothing bad. From the way it looks it was successful as my 1st psa was <0.04! I will have my next 6 month test toward the end of November. The Docs usually know what they are looking at so you will probably have success also. Good luck to you both and I will keep an eye on the forum to follow your journey.

David
