i had a doctor appointment yesterday. found out that they believe that the best procedure to do would be a hysterectomy. i dont know if it will be full or partial yet. according to the doctor the cancer has invaded all of my cervix varying between mild dysplasia-carcinoma in situ. all the way to the muscle but not invading past the muscle. so i would think it would be a partial....does anyone know? any words of advice to cope? im having difficulties accepting the fact that i wont be having kids...i feel numb. and lost and i cry like every10 minutes  |

I am so so sorry to hear that. I can't even imagine the pain and sorrow you must be going through right now. I remember that you and I both joined this forum about the same time and I was hoping your case was a lot more mild than mine.
Now, If a partial hysterectomy is an option, maybe you can ask for a trachelectomy and see if that is in your cards. in a trach, they don't remove the uterus so that way you are still able to have kids, but it would be a difficult pregnancy and birth would have to be by cesarean. No harm in asking. I know only few doctors like to preform the surgery, but I do know that my doctor had presented that option to me. but you did say that the doctor said that the cancer was seen in all of your cervix. As far as I know a partial hysterectomy removes the uterus and not the cervix, but maybe your doctor was referring to the trach and just called it a partial.
Now, i'm no doctor, but for some reason, when someone says that you have mild dysplasia to carcinoma in situ and recommends a hysterectomy, little red flags go up. From what I have learned from school and the small amount of medical training that i do have, "carcinoma in situ" means that the cells are only on the surface of the cervix. the "in situ" part means it is in the same position or haven't moved, which in regards to carcinoma, means that it is on the surface. For example, melanoma in situ is when the cancer cells are just on the surface of the skin and not deeper. And I know it is very rare and a very aggressive treatment to recommend a hysterectomy if that is truly the case. But then your doctor did say the cells were all the way to the muscle but not invading the muscle? To me that sounds like something way more invasive than carcinoma in situ.
I don't mean to be causing confusion during this time, but I want to make sure you get the best treatment and all your options presented to you. If you are up for it, you can always get a second opinion. But remember, I am going off of what you have written here and i don't have access to your medical chart. Ultimately, you need to make a decision with your doctor on what would be best for you.

its mild in very minimal areas and more severe everywhere else....the cells are bad all the way through to the muscle but stops right at the muscle. my doctor didnt mention the partial to me, my stepmom did. she had a hysterectomy. but everything happens for a reason, i just dont know what the reason is yet for this...thanks for the support.
