I was diagnosed a month ago with AIS and will be having a cone biopsy on November 12. For those had have had AIS, was a CKC sufficient for diagnosis/treatment? If not, what else did you have done? And did the CKC find that the disease had progressed further?

There is so little info about adenocarcinoma out there. Is this a fast growing cancer? What is the average time it takes to get from AIS to Stage 1?

Thanks!

Hi 2xsurvivor,

First off, i am sorry that you have to be on this forum. We all know how scary and horrible this whole ordeal is.

As far as my medical knowledge is concerned, I do believe adenocarcinoma is the next most common type of cervical cancer after squamous. It is more unusual but not unheard off. But one thing that is good is that it behaves just like squamous cell cancers in a predictable motion.

Now, if the doctor said it was "in situ", that means the cells are the surface of your cervix. The cone biopsy will tell us if they have grown deeper.

For some people, a cone biopsy is enough. It is a case by case scenario depending on the type and how much the cancer has spread.

I don't have any data for you that can say how fast this moves, but you are nipping this right in the bud! After you get your biopsy results back, you and your doctor can make a decision based on the appropriate treatment options for you.

I hope this helps answers your questions. Very Happy
