My husband died 7 months ago after a very short, 5 months, battle with pancreatic cancer.
I found the various forums very helpful but I finally have decided to share my experience. I would just like to say that I was prepared for just the worst journey but when it happened it was actually very peaceful. He just got weaker and slipped away. Maybe we were fortunate as my husband was able to have visitors at home, recognise them and talk to them at 3pm before he died at 9.25 that night. No nappies, no oedema.
We were also lucky to have a GP who would ring to see how we were and whether we needed a home visit and we certainly had access to very good pain meds. Mind you if it had been my decision I would not have tried chemo or radiation. What a waste of time and money that was and I really disliked his oncologist.
Some of the posts on this forum seem to have had very bad experiences. I just want to say that whereas I would not have wanted my husband to die when he did, if you are dealing with this, please do not be afraid of the end.

Hi CJS. I am so very sorry about your husband's sudden death. While my mother did not die of Pancreatic Cancer, she did die only 2 months after her diagnosis with a primary brain cancer. She also died very peacefully. I guess that is the most common way for people with brain cancer to go. Unfortunately, this is not the case for a lot of other cancers where there is more pain. So, thank you for your encouragement. I do know that a lot of people choose to die alone when it can be so much more helpful to the survivors if they can be a part of this until the end.
