Hello everyone.
This is my first time to post here. I havent been to my doctor yet. I have an appointment on November 24th.

I am going to copy and paste an email I sent to my step mother. So when you read it will sound like I am talking to someone else. I am talking to my step mother. ALso before you read know that I have been trying to get pregnant. I have two little boys and had no trouble getting pregnant with them, that is why it is surprise that we have been trying for 10 months with no success.
Please yall read it and tell me what you think!! 19 days until I get to the doctor!

So I have a problem. I am going to tell you since you are a nurse and I cant get to the doctor until 2 weeks. Now this is personal so please dont tell anyone.

Ok so you know that I have been tracking my cycles so I will know exactly when my body releases my egg. There are several things I do....take my temperature every morning, use ovulation predictor tests, check my cervical mucus (it changes throughout the cycle and certain kinds of cervical mucus means you are fertile. Well another thing I do is actually check my cervix. Now I know how weird that sounds but in the world of trying to conceive his is completely normal. Its not gross (atleast if you shower regularly haha). So I have been checking my cervix for the past 10 months. I know exactly how it feels (what texture and what position and how open or closed it is) during the different phases of my cycle. When you ovulate the cervix moves up high, it gets really soft and it becomes open slightly so the sperm can swim through. You also produce a different kind of cervical mucus so the sperm can swim through the slightly opened cervix and live longer. So for the past 10months my cervix has felt the exact way everything says it should. I also produce the exact types of cervical mucus during the right times. My cycles are very regular with no irregular bleeding or spotting.
So yesterday while in the shower I checked my cervix. I was horrified at what I felt! I was freaking HUGE!!! Now normally my cervix is approximately the size of a 2litters bottle cap (which is normal). Yesterday when I checked my cervix was almost as big around as a golf ball and it is barrel shaped. It is kind of cylinder shaped. No pain or sensitivity. No spotting or anything. Now if you google "enlargerd barrel shaped cervix" you will see that it indicates something along the lines of cervical cancer. I checked yesterday and that is when I found it was grossly enlarged. The last time I checked my cervix was about a week ago. Therefore the enlargement occurred withing the past week.
Now here is a brief history of my female history. I have not been very responsible with getting regular pap smears. Within the past 6 years I have only had 2 and those were during the first visit to my prenatal appointments of my two boys. Both paps came back showing abnormal cells. My Dr. told me that at my 6 week check up she would be able to determine if it was coming back abnormal because of the pregnancy or abnormal for some other reason. Well with both of my children, I never went back for a 6 week check up. I was always too busy and since I thought I was fine I saw it unnecessary to get my 6 week old baby ready for me to go to the dr. when I wasnt even sick. Yes I know how crazy tha is!
SO you know where cervical cancer comes from.....HPV. 70% of people who have had sex (protected or unprotected) have some type of HPV. I know a little about HPV because my topic in Eng Comp II was the vaccine Gardasil. Gardasil is a vaccine to prevent the more dangerous types of HPV.

SO tell me what you know about HPV, cervical cancer, and a grossly enlarged barrel shaped cervix. Like I said, no bleeding or spotting, no pain or sensitivity, my cervical mucus is completely normal, no smell either.

You know how the cervix is about the size of a bottle cap....it kind of sticks off the vagina wall. Well a bottle cap is about a half an inch tall. Well that is what mine used to feel like.......now it is about 2 and a half to 3 inches tall/long and about as big around as a golf ball. We havent had sex in about 3 days. When we did have sex there was no pain. I am at the very end of my cycle. My menstrual is due in about 4 days.

I am worried. I know you are going to say, "get to the dr. now!!" I have an appointment on the 24th. I dont want to go to the ER.

Hi Krstnpace,

First off, so sorry that you have to find yourself on this forum. I know you would much rather be in an "expecting" forum. Smile

I am not going to chastise you about not following up and you shouldn't blame yourself either. We all get busy (especially with 2 kids Very Happy ) and put things off or forget about them. Happens more commonly than you think.

To try to easy your mind, cervical cancer is a slow progressive predictable disease. We know what stages it moves in and what to expect. With that being said, with it being a slow progressive disease, I would want to point my finger (no pun intended) at some other cause as to why your cervix suddenly enlarged.

Now yes, you have had abnormal cells, but that too can happen with pregnancy, and since we do not have a post birth follow-up we cannot ignore the fact that you have normal cells on your cervix when you aren't pregnant.

Because you didn't say in your post, have you had any other abnormal paps before (expect during the pregnancy)? and you didn't mention how old you are. HPV can lay dormant for years before becoming active and for younger girls, they can often fight off the HPV cells naturally with their own immunity.

So, besides all that mumbo jumbo that I just bored you with, try to relax. There isn't any point to worring and stressing about something that we don't know for sure is the cause. I know that is easier said than done, but perhaps try to keep your mind off of it. Think happy thoughts! Very Happy

Let us know how the pap goes and when you get the results!

-Hugs and Love, Rockstar
