Hello-
I just found out that I have level 2 melanoma. Is this the same as "stage 2" cancer? I'm just pretty scared at this point as I don’t know much about skin cancer. All that I have read is that it’s the most dangerous. I am only 23 years old, and don’t really know why I have this. I did tan a few years ago, but it was nothing excessive. I guess I would just like to hear from someone that has the same condition as I do. I have yet to talk to an oncologist and all... still have to have my consult with general surgery for further removal and possible Sentinel Node Biopsy. Has anyone gone through the chemo? I will have more of my questions answered when I talk to my dr on Monday but in the meantime, like I said, I’m just scared. Sad

A level 2 is a Stage I melanoma. Unless they said Stage 2. Level refers to Clarks level. Did you have your excision? I hope you're doing well! 23 is a young age for a cancer dx. I am sorry. I was 34 and I felt that was young!

Thank you for responding Smile
I am really blessed in that everything turned out ok! I had my surgery (much bigger scar than I anticipated... But such a *small* price to pay when considering the situation) I couldnt have been happier or more relieved when the Dr. told me that the surrounding tissue came back cancer-free! I'm just advocating skin checks for all those I know an love now. I hope you are doing well, and again, thanks for caring and responding. I was very scared and didnt know much about skin cancer. Now I know A LOT, and things are ok! Happy Holidays to you!

BTW, Clarke's Level is out as a prognosticator in the new AJCC Staging Guidelines for melanoma which is due out in about 2 months or so.... EXCEPT when the pathologist can't determine if any mitosis exist in thin melanomas....

Alot of folks confuse Clarke's Level with stage and the two are hardly the same.... My tumor was a T3a and the podiatrist who took it off got things mixed up and told me I was Stage III -- which scared the holy hell out of me above and beyond the word "melanoma"....
