I posted about 2 months ago about my swollen lymph nodes and night sweats. Well I had my appointment today with a specialist. It took 2 months to get an appointment lol so I was happy to go and see him.
He asked me a bunch of questions then felt my lymph nodes he said he doesn't think they are that big the sizes feels normal, and also the ultrasound that I did 2 months ago indicated that the largest one under my armpit was 0.4x1.1cm he thinks that that is fine.
But to be sure since I am experiencing night sweats he let me took some chest x-rays and he's going to test me for some specific diseases he marked HIV, hepatitis, EBV and lots of other but don't remember all the names. He also took a urine sample.
I hope they come back negative and hoping that I have a minor infection. I don't know what to think. I am nervous about the HIV test.

Did any of you also got tested for some of these things?

Hi Honeychild,

I got tested for a bunch of diseases after my lymphoma diagnosis, as they need to know about that stuff before beginning transfusions and such (they found nothing)

I think the infection sounds most likely, but hopefully the tests will give you the information you need to start feeling normal again.

Hi Honey

I too remember having loads of blood tests for various things one of which was HIV.

I get the feeling it's pretty routine to do these blood tests for all manner of reasons.

Hope you get positive news soon.

Hi Honeychild

All those tests they took are par for the course everyone gets them. I hope you get good results and your fears are unwarranted.

Good luck

Well I got my results back from the specialist. Chest x-rays were clear all bloodwork were fine again. They only thing they found was that I once had EBV I think when I was little. The doctor told me he doesn't think it is lymphoma because it did not show in my blood. But from what I have been reading it doesn't always show in your blood so I don't know why he thinks he can rule it out. He told me that he does not know what to test me for now because basically they had tested me for all sort of infections etc. and all came back negative. He told me he wants to see me again over 3 months and he will measure my weight and do blood test again. Can't believe I have to wait 3 months again I just want to know what's wrong. I have been walking wit this for almost a year now. The specialist told me that he doesn't think my lymph nodes are that enlarged and they feel quite normal to him.

But since the weekend 2 lymph nodes on the left side of my neck has been hurting a bit and grew a bit in size. Not extremely but definetly more bigger then before. I have not contact the doctor for this because I just want to wait and see if they will go down and if the pain goes away. It could be because I have the cold, but we will see.

Hi honeychild

The doctor probably ruled out lymphoma because your nodes are a normal size. If they are hurting this is probably due to you feeling them too much as the swollen nodes in Lymphoma rarely hurt unless they get very big.

If you are unhappy you can always see another doctor and if you cannot get this out of your mind and relax I would do that if i were in your shoes.

Good Luck and let us know how you go.

Honeychild,

Can I ask which country you are in?

If I was you I would definitely seek a 2nd opinion. You are probably fine but as with all nasty illnesses, whether cancer or an infection, treatment is always better as early as possible.

As for you results, I too was diagnosed with EBV. Because of this diagnosis I had to come back 3 months later. Thankfully after 3 months I saw another doctor who performed blood tests again which were normal. He then made the decision to send me to a specialist and I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Just to make this clear I had 2 sets of blood tests - all normal. I had a needle biopsy - normal. I had enlarged lymph nodes in my neck for 3 months but all were considered 'normal' in size and appearance. It took removal of my tonsils to confirm Lymphoma. Mistakes can happen - don't let them make you wait. The sooner you get to the bottom of this the better.

Thank you for the reply's and advice here.
To answer the question what country I am in is Holland. I had actually seen 2 doctors and 1 specialist. The first one I saw was in July and then the other in September and the specialist I saw in January. I had since July 4 blood tests and 2 ultrasounds and one chest x ray. All came back fine. But I will wait these 3 months for the apointment with my specialist again unless if something happens in the meantime. One thing I want to add is that I have felt these lymph nodes since May 2009.

Like Chemoman said I will try to get this out of my head for now and stop touching them, because I do that every '' minute'' to see if there is any changes.

I will keep you all updated.
