My 82 year old father was recently diagnosed with small cell lung cancer based on a biopsy and of a tumorous growth on his side (about 6 inches below his arm pit). He exhibited no symptoms, and subsequent blood work, Xray, CAT scan, bone scan, and PET scan failed to find a "primary site". The doctors were baffeled when they could not find a "primary site". They were unable to define the stage of the cancer as either "limited stage" or "extensive stage". The doctor has recommended surgery and local radiation, with no chemotherapy or PCI. The surgery removing the tumor and 28 surrounding lymph nodes was performed on 7/18. I have not yet received a pathology report. The only previous cancer my father has had was a prostate cancer 3-4 years ago which was treated using radioactive inplant therapy. Has anybody heard of a case like this?
