My wifes bag keeps pulling away from her skin, which obviously causes bad leakage.
The area is clean, the bag is prepared correctly, ie: correct hole size, position, adhesive isn't touched, etc and she changes the contents often.
There are many different types of bags, but we're just not sure which way to go.
Any ideas? |

my Dad had same problem...discovered it was no problem with the bag at all..something to do with lesions around the area..
I am sorry I'm not more informative. I'll ask my Mom exactly what the problem was tomorrow..just didn't want to NOT to respond to your worries.
I promise to have an answer tomorrow |

At first we also thought it was from the condition of the skin. Now however the skin is healed, but it still happens.
This is actually my former, but we're good friends. She's staying with her mother, so that helps when there is a problem.
They're careful not to have any creams, etc on the area. One thing is for sure, if it gets full during the night there will be a problem.
There are so many different types that we may need to try others and compare.
Thank you for responding ! |

sorry I didn't keep my promise and reply when I said I would...I had a house full of sick kids and now sick myself and haven't had a chance to talk to my Mom.
The only suggestion I have at this time is to call the doctor or surgeon and tell them what's happening. They should be able to tell you how to correct the problem .
Good luck and I DO PROMISE to find out what I can as soon as possible |

I have found that washing the area with Dial Soap helps. Many other soaps contain lanolin and other oils which interfere with the adhesive on the wafer. This is a very embarassing problem and I can understand your concern. I find that I often have to change my bag 3X per day. Also, after a certain period of time after the colostomy, you can obtain a unit where you can flush the colon once a day and cap it off, rather than wearing a bag. Best bet is to see an ostomy nurse and discuss the problem with her/him. _________________ Laugh every day. Laugh so loud that you will be identified by the sound in the next aisle of the supermarket.

| I'm sorry it took so long to reply. I haven't visited this site in a few months. I am not sure what type of bag your wife is using. My wife had a colostomy done about four months ago so we a new to this also. We have found that a two piece small closed bag seems to work the best so far. She is still going through chemo, so nothing is regular. We get her supplies through a mail order company and they have been very helpful with suggestions and recomendations. They recomended a specific type of tape to use around the backing that does not damage the skin. this may be all dated info that you already have discovered. I hope you have already found a solution. |
