| I found a lump in the lower left quadrant of my left breast. There is some pain but no discharge. Nagative mammogram and ultrasound. What should I expect next? |

| I guess I would want a biopsy of some kind done on the lump. Eighty percent of breast lumps are not cancer, but I would want to know for sure. Just MHO. Good luck. Lauri |

Hi Poodle,
How about an MRI? Would that be an option?
Hugs,
Margie
P.S. But I do agree with Lauri. Don't let this ride. Keep pursuing even if it means a biopsy. Just not worth it to take any chances. |

Hello!
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I am 40 years old. No history of breast cancer in my family, however my mother had a cyst removed when she was in her 40's. Partial hysterectomy at 29. No hormone therapy.
I would have to have an order for an MRI, correct? |

Hello
I don't think a MRI will be the answer. Talk to your doctor, maybe a biopsy might be the best route.

Hi,
I had no family history of breast cancer or any other cancer for that matter and my mammogram also came back "negative for cancer" but I could feel the lump/mass. The only way to be sure is with a biopsy and thank God I pushed for one. I was only a couple of years older then you when I was dx 2/02. Sadly, there is no such thing as too young and family history, according to the last ACS report I saw only accounted for 10-15% of all BC.
As my saying goes, the only good lump is one in a jaw. You need to find out one way or another and I'll be praying it's B9 and then you can relax!

Hello
Thank you so much for your time.
If nothing can be seen on ultrasound how will the site of biopsy be
determined. |

If you feel a lump, it can be biopsied. Mammograms are far from perfect, but definately worth getting every year because it does find 1/2. As I said, I felt the lump/mass but the mammogram was negative and the ultra sound said that it was 2, 1cm B9 cysts. I knew what I felt was one of whatever it was. I had to call my family doc and tell her I wanted to see a surgeon. Here, you don't have to have a referral to see one, but check with your insurance.
