I am an 18 year old male and a few weeks ago noticed some blood in the bowl and on the tissue. I waited a week and went to the doctor, and he told me immediately it was due to hemerrhoids, he told me he could see an internal one, and didn't need to really look around as he could tell I was quite uncomfortable with it, and it wasn't fully necessary. I was prescribed some Cortizone and it seemed to fix it, I had all the symptoms of piles and was worried, but my mind was put at ease.

I started to eat Fiber One and Total cereal, and yesterday I noticed some dark brown stools, and today noticed one that appeared the be very dark, almost black. It wasn't tarry, and for the past few days I haven't been eating very healthy, cuttign back on fruit intake. To counter that I've eaten more Total, maybe 1-3 servings a day, and noticed that just 1 serving contained 100% iron. I have been constipated from slipping in my diet, and noticed a bit of blood this morning, which I attribute to the hemorrhoids, but the color is starting to worry me. At 18 could it be cancer, if I had melena would I know it? The stool is dry and hard, not tarry, and there is no smell to it really. I am wondering if these symptons look like colon cancer and if I should go back to the doctor and get a full checkup, or if the constipation has reaggravated the hemorrhoids and the dark color is simply from too much iron?
