Hi, I am new to this forum.

After 3 years: (2 crainis, 1 regiment of high dose radiation (six weeks) and two rounds of chemo) it is back in a new area, but not that far from the original tumor (frontal lobe).

Dr. Would like to do a biopsy immediately. We are waiting on a call as I write. I would like to avoid another week in the hospital then another surgery and more hospitalization etc..

Can't I just assume that this is a recurrent Astro (AA or GBM) either III or IV and get on with it (chemo or gamma knife etc.) and avoid one possibly two surgeries? The reocurrence is small about the size of a piece of corn.

Many thanks

Hi, my story is similar. In 1992 I was diagnosed with a quarter-size Astrocytoma Grade II. I went through 13 months of chemo. It took care of the cancer until this last June when I also had a recurrence. Mine is about 4cm long, 1cm wide, and 1cm deep. Biopsy showed that it is an Oligodendroglioma mixed grade with areas of Grade III.

I had surgery the week before Thanksgiving. Surgery itself was no big deal. I was home three days post-op. But it left me with significant right-sided weakness and cognition problems. Tonight is the first time I am REAL back to almost normal. I am waiting to start radiation and chemo. I know what to expect from the chemo. I am not sure about the radiation. It might cause me to have more right-sided weakness.

I had 1 cycle of pre-adjuvant chemo to get clearer margins. You might want to ask your MD about that as a possibility. Of course, by now you too may already be recovering.

I will be thinking about you. Hope to hear soon. You sound like a "winner" to me. I do not expect it to be a GBM.
