Hi,

I just needed to vent, as I am going crazy with fear right now. Am here in CA, with my family in the UK.

For about 3 months now my 74yo father has suffered a chronic, mainly dry, cough, night sweats, and a little weight loss. As a side note, about 40 years ago he contracted (and was treated for) TB. He also is an ex-smoker (about 20 years ago), and has suffered recurrent bronchitis for as long as I can remember.

A couple of months ago his doctor sent for a chest x-ray which came back as abnormal, with some abnormality towards the edge of one of the lower lobes.

He also had a bronchoscopy (they didn't see anything, but they took tissue samples anyhow I believe), they did a sputum cytology (it came back quickly with two infections - neither were TB but I thought that took longer to identify ?), they also ran blood tests, and finally performed a spiral (?) CT scan with the dye that they inject. The scan happened this past Monday.

Anyhow, today (Thursday) my Mother receives a call from the specialist himself asking for my Dad to come into see him tomorrow. Mum asked if it was very serious, and he of course didn't say anything other than they they needed to discuss it.

So I am sitting here six thousand miles away sick to my stomach. My fear is telling me that because he was called in so quickly (remember this is in the UK and turn arounds times aren't usually very fast) it has to be worst case scenario. I guess I just need a glimmer of hope that it coud be something else to keep my sanity for the next 15 hours before we know....
