OK, so about 2 months ago I went in for a checkup on my moles, and she said that they are considered to be a Dystplastic Nevi/ atypical mole. I was suposed to get them off on that day but I was freaking out really bad and I didnt. Now just recently, 4 days ago 2 biopsys. One on my upper abck and one underneithe my chest. I've also had a family member with something more serious but not quite melanoma. Ive been worried and i havent gotten the results back, and since the biopsy, I have been really paranoid and scared and have been researching alot about it. What do you think my chnaces are of my moles being somethign more serious?

Hi valgal,
Wow I feel for you... was so proud that you went back to get these moles taken care of!!! ... Take it from and rather young, great looking mom who has full blown skin cancer, that the waiting is one of the worst feelings when you feel as though your world is about to crumble...Our minds play all types of tricks on us, and we always think the worst... You are already better, taking care of this now is going to keep you healthy, being scared (terrified more like it) is normal, and you will not know how strong you are until the challenge is there. Sounds like you need a huge hug...only wish I was there to give you one... Will pray that all will be fine, if you need a shoulder, kiwigal will be there... Take care Valgal...think good thoughts..

Hello there,

I also have this. Or rather my consultant told me I have Dysplastic Naevus Syndrome (DNS). That is as I have more than 50 moles over the whole of the body. No matter how many are cut out they continue to grow back. For example, I have a scar 6 inches long under my left shoulder blade from my Melanoma and that is now covered with more freckles and moles. It doesnt matter either how much sun exposure I get. I.e. its winter here and havent seen the sun for months on end, but they continue to pop up on the legs and back even though Im funny covered up!

BUT, just because you have DNS does not necesarily mean they will automatically be Melanoma. it just means you have many strange looking moles in various shapes and sizes but not necesarily cancerous. Well thats how my consultant explained it to me anyway.
