My father, 43 years old (non-smoker) was diagnosed with NSCLC Stage 1A adenocarcinoma about half a year ago. He had a surgery (lobectomy) where they removed the tumour. He didn't get any radiation or chemo after the surgery.

But now he has a new tumour in the same lung, and this time they are only giving him radiation, they will not operate.

My question is, is it common that they only operate one time? I think the best option would be to remove this tumour through surgery as well as they did with the first one.
