My father has a new diagnosis of prostate cancer with the following characteristics before hormone therapy:
Positive biopsy with 20% of right lobe containing cancer
Gleason score - 8
PSA Level - 4.8
Bone scan revealed metastasis to his shoulder, pelvis and one rib.

Hormone therapy was recommended and yielded the following after 3 months:
PSA Level - 3.8
Bone scan showed moderate to no increase of hot spots.

* I was under the impression that Hormone therapy worked 99% of the time with the initial treatment resulting in the reduction of hot spots and lowering of PSA levels to near zero.

Is it possible that the hot spots are not cancer at all? Is it possible that my father is immune to the hormone therapy? Is it possible that the hot spots are another form of cancer?

Any help would be enormously appreciated.

Too early. I would repeat psa and continue hormones for three to four months before getting too alarmed.

email me for any further input.

Thanks so much your reply. My father and I are going to see DR Donald (Skip) Trump at Roswell Park for a second opinion. He had another PSA test which showed a drop of another 1/2 point. I may check back with the forum from time to time with questions.

God bless you all for being here for those of us who need to better understand this illness.

some of my later stage patients have started a powerful antioxidant therapy with surprising degrees of success.
I can send you more info on this idea after you visit with dr trump. I even have some patients who can discuss their case histories of successful therapy with you if you would like to investigate such options.

good luck and god bless you also.
