I just lost my mother-in-law (husband's step-mother) to breast cancer in October.

It almost seems too much to bear... Yesterday we found out my mother-in-law (husband's mother) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery a week ago. They removed all her ducts and the "core" of her breast and seemed fairly confident the pathology results would come back negative for cancer.

With the diagnosis being so fresh, how can I best offer her the support she is going to need during this difficult time of treatment decisions, bombardment with new information, etc...?
