Hello,
I have what a general surgeon diagnosed as a 4 cm lipoma above my right temple. I was told that it would be surgically removed and tested. I saw my surgeon 6 months ago, and due to long waiting lists for minor surgery I still have no appointment for removal.

I've read what I could about lipoma, bening; fatty lump. And it should not be a concern from what i have read. I am just a little curious about how it got there, in the first place; but, the fact that my grandmother died of a brain tumour has made me nervous.

How can the doctor know that it is a benign lipoma and not something else. I am wondering if anyone else has had this or maybe I should be posting somewheres completely different. Thank you for any input...

Hi Jewel,

Having survived brain cancer twice, I assure you that there is no chance of a lipoma becoming a brain cancer. Certainly, you might possibly get a true brain cancer sometime in the future, but totally unrelated to the lipoma. I understand your concern. If you really what to go ahead and take care of the lipoma, seek out a less busy medical center and doctor. Six months is a long time to wait… even if it is “only” a lipoma.

Hi Brainman,
Thank you for your post. I realize it is ridiculous for me to be concerned after reading many of the stories here. I am humbled by so many courageous experiences. I don't know how you remain positive in the face of what you are up against. I am no longer so concerned about my tiny little lipoma, about the seriousness of a pimple compared to the extreme situations many are faced with. I am humbled. I am glad that I have read here, I am sorry that such suffering exists, am happy to find stories of overcoming. I wish there was a cure for cancer, it has to be awful to live with, or to not survive. My prayers with many. Suddenly my worries are trivial. Brainman, you have survived two brain tumours. Strenght, compasion, and prayers are with you. I can only hope for a cure, and think that you like many, are amazing.
