Hi

When I was a small girl (32 years ago) my father had cancer and was given 3 months to live. He was treated for Hodgkins lymphoma although that was not what he had because they had no treatment for his type of cancer at the time. I was small and can only remember that it was to do with the lymphatic system.

He is still alive, but has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It has been caught early and he is having hormone therapy with radiotherapy to follow. He only told me last night so I had no idea what questions to ask him about Gleasons, PSA etc. Also he is quite private, and only told me now because I grew up believing my dad was dying imminently, and as a teenager berated him for not telling me, so I don't have much info about this one either, yet.

Does anyone know about getting cancer for a second time when it is a different cancer? From all I can read, catching prostate cancer early gives him a good chance (it hasn't spread to his bones or lymph system according to tests) but his immune system is pretty poor and I just don't know where to look for answers. Short of asking him but I'm not sure I even know what questions to ask or whether he will have the answers. We have cancer in both sides of the family so I'm feeling a bit scared right now that I might be about to lose him.

Thanks

Hi, I was diaglnosed with prostate cancer at 59, PSA 11.7
I decided to have a radiation implant + 25 days of radiation treatments.
I found 6 mos later it didn't work & PSA was going back. I had Cryo treatment to freeze the prostate. That worked. Six years later my PSA is still close to zero.
The Cryo treatment ruined the lining in my bladder & I had to have surgery to put a urine pouch on my side. But i'm still alive, healthy, married & happy.
Even tho this year i was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Good Luck.
